Rehabilitation Specifications:
Area
Specific Requirements
Color Scheme The Government PMO shall approve all colors.
Size
1. The Classroom desired size requirement is 650 square feet (based on an average of 24 students per classroom).
Dimensional configuration shall be as close to a perfect square as possible. Rooms of all dimensions shall be considered and might involve the subdivision of a larger space or the merging of two or more smaller spaces to provide the net area and desired dimensions.
3. Classroom size and shape shall determine the maximum number of student workstations.
2. Students should be seated 7 feet minimum distance from projector screens and 6 feet from 84” flat panel video displays.
Floors
1. The classroom standard requires a minimum of 4” clearance from the original floor to the bottom of the raised floor to accommodate electrical, network, and audiovisual cables. Raised floors shall be installed over an existing floor, or substrata. Existing stages/instructor platforms may need to be removed (consult COR prior to removal).
2. Raised access flooring shall be covered with sound absorbing 2’X2’ carpet tiles.
3. The Contractor shall provide an extra box of additional carpet floor tiles per classroom.
4. Dedicated raised floor boxes for electrical and data shall be provided for each student desk, instructor desk or podium, printer, and audiovisual cabinet location.
5. Provide floor boxes in the raised computer floor to provide power receptacles, and data com receptacles for Government personnel to install network cabling and telephone lines.
· Provide four auxiliary outlets mounted in floor boxes at the room’s periphery for convenience outlets. No cutouts shall be made in the acoustical walls.
Walls
1. Classroom walls shall be covered with sound absorbing acoustical panels (53dB) when required by TRADOC ECP PM approved design.
2. Telephone cable shall remain exposed.
3. No cutouts shall be made in the acoustical walls.
Ceilings
1. Classrooms shall be treated with acoustical grade ceiling tiles when required by PM approved design.
2. The standard classroom ceiling height is 11-12 feet. This typically allows enough room for a plenum spacer for mechanical ductwork.
3. For placement of ceiling rafter reinforcement, see electrical box placement for projectors.
4. Stepped ceiling is NOT required.
5. Provide an extra box of ceiling tiles per classroom when ceiling tiles are required by ECP PM approved design.
Electrical
1. Install a dedicated 100A or 200A sub-panel when required by the TRADOC ECP PM approved design. The purpose of this sub-panel is to support all student and instructor workstations, audiovisual systems, classroom equipment, etc.
2. Electrical boxes shall be placed beneath the floor at the right front corner of each student desk (facing desk from front of classroom), as well as the instructor desk or podium. A 4” round hole with a removable cover shall be placed in the desk top above the electrical box, with a matching access hole at the left front corner of the desk for other cabling necessities. Wire mold floor track will be used to provide the electrical/data and the floor boxes for each desk and all classroom equipment for classrooms that do not have a computer floor.
3. Every student desk shall be furnished with a power strip with a minimum of six outlets (15A, 120V). The instructor position shall have a minimum of eight (8) outlets to accommodate transformers.
4. Student desks shall NOT share an electrical box. Further, no more than five student desktop computers or eight laptop computers may share a single 20A circuit. The instructor position must be provided with a single 20A circuit, not to be shared by any other position.
5. Provide One (1) 20A circuit to power one projector and one electric screen as a set. Contractor shall provide a second 20A circuit to power a second projector and electric screen as a set. One 20A circuit to power two of the new 84” flat panel video displays.
6. One (1) power outlet will be placed in the front of the classroom to support the video teleconferencing camera if required by PM approved design. The contractor shall provide four auxiliary outlets mounted in floor boxes at the room’s periphery for convenience outlets if the classroom has a computer floor. No cutouts shall be made in acoustical walls.
7. One (1) 20A circuit shall be supplied to the classroom audiovisual equipment cabinet, with the outlets residing under the floor similarly to the student desks for classrooms with computer floors or use wire mold floor tracking for classrooms without computer floors. These outlets must share the same place.
8. One outlet shall be installed for the video teleconferencing camera dedicated to the instructor. Typically, this camera is located in the rear of the classroom, at a position that lends itself to a clear, unobstructed view of the instructor. This outlet shall be placed in the floor if classroom has a computer floor, over which the camera pedestal shall be placed or as required by the PM approved design.
9. An outlet and wiring shall be provided to support the printer that is located on the audiovisual equipment cabinet.
Lighting
1. Classroom lighting shall be 2 x 4 LED fixtures aligned parallel with student desks. The lighting circuits shall terminate in a NEMA enclosure or 4” workbox to be located in an accessible, clearly marked location above the suspended ceiling.
2. Lighting fixtures located in close proximity to the projection screens (excluding flat panel displays) shall employ a reflector system to redirect ambient light away from the projection surfaces. Lighting fixtures shall be Mark IV (or equal), “daylight” type, and have minimum color temperature of 5100°K.
HVAC
1. The HVAC system must have the capability to provide adequate ventilation air (outside air) to support a room of up to 24 students and one instructor, each with a computer when required by TRADOC
ECP PM approved design.
Painting
1. Remove all wall-mounted chalkboards, white boards, coat hooks, and other accessories; reinstall after painting or place these items in storage if requested for school re-use.
| 2. | Fill and sand all cracks, holes and voids in existing partitions to ensure surfaces are completely prepared for new paint or wall finish. Prep walls, clean, patch, and Paint walls with Sharkfin Grey #4007- 2A on 3 walls and use Hematite #4006-2C on front accent wall. |
Other
Classrooms shall have keyed locks.
