About this file

This document is a Performance Requirements specification for a Self-Help Laundry system for the U.S. Air Force Base Expeditionary Alternative Resources (BEAR) base. The laundry system must include five top-loading washers, five stacked dryers (totaling ten individual dryer tumblers), an electrical system, and a water system with a 3,000-gallon water tank, water heater, supply pump, and drain pump. The system is designed for continuous, balanced operation in field conditions, with specific requirements for electrical power (120/208 volts, 3-phase), water connections, and environmental durability (operating in temperatures from 32°F to 125°F with rain and blowing sand).

The specification provides comprehensive technical details for each component, including precise dimensional constraints, performance expectations, and quality assurance verification processes. Each washer must have a minimum 3.19 cubic foot drum capacity, complete a wash cycle within 40 minutes, and operate without coins or programming cards. Dryers must dry a full load in one hour and have individual temperature controls. The system includes seven electrical distribution panels, quick-disconnect water fittings, and must be capable of setup in a 32x20 foot tent environment. The specification is intended for potential manufacturers who can produce these laundry systems for the Air Force, with an estimated quantity of 61 systems annually over a potential 5-year contract period.
