About this file

This is a Technical Specifications document for Bid No. 26-04/AL issued by a local authority for the sale of surplus lead acid batteries for recycling. The bid seeks to establish a term contract with a qualified company to provide pick-up and transportation of lead acid batteries from two Household Hazardous Waste Facilities located in West Palm Beach and Delray Beach, Florida. The contract covers all sizes and types of liquid and gel-filled lead acid batteries, including automotive, marine, industrial, and backup batteries. The estimated annual volume is 220,000 pounds (116,000 lbs from the North Location and 104,000 lbs from the South Location), with pick-ups scheduled once every two weeks at each site during operating hours of Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

The bid requires bidders to indicate the amount to be paid to the authority for the batteries, with no additional charges allowed for mobilization, labor, or materials. The vendor must provide comprehensive pick-up services, including obtaining tare and load weight tickets, and responding to pick-up requests within 24-48 hours. The bidder will have two options for handling pallets: either bringing replacement pallets or unloading batteries from shrink-wrapped pallets at the pickup site. All batteries must be palletized and shrink-wrapped for pick-up, and a typical automotive battery is defined as having a standard unit weight of 35 pounds.
