About this file
This is a set of as-built construction drawings for Contract A-12 Gas Distribution at the Alger Correctional Facility in Michigan (State Account No. 110-47-6599-001), prepared by U.P. Engineering & Architectural Assoc., Inc. and managed by The Champion/Gundlach Joint Venture. The drawings detail a gas distribution system installation project that began on June 12, 1989 and was completed on July 24, 1989. The project scope included installing gas lines, requiring excavation up to 300 feet in length at a time, with a minimum depth of 4 feet below finished grade for 3"-8" piping. The work encompassed installing gas distribution infrastructure throughout the facility, including to housing units, support services, education/recreation areas, and a baseball field.
The drawings include detailed specifications for materials and construction requirements, including concrete with 28-day compressive strength of 4000 psi for slabs and foundations, ASTM Grade 60 reinforcing steel, and specific gas piping materials per sections 02551 and 02552. The plans show installation details for a 30,000-gallon propane storage tank, standby propane fuel system, gas shut-off valves, pipe supports, utility crossings, and security fence enclosures. The contractor was required to coordinate with other contractors on site and maintain MDOT specifications throughout construction.
