Copyediting and Document Design Services
Alternate ID: 18MACISNG1 COMMBUYS Document #: BD-18-1026-DOE02-DOE01-25540
Background:
Academic Vision of the Center for Instructional Support:
Every student in Massachusetts has access to a safe and supportive school environment that cultivates their academic curiosity and confidence. Students have equitable access to an excellent education.
Students read meaningful texts across content areas, work on complex real-world problems, and share their ideas through speaking and writing using evidence, all in an effort to understand the world and their roles in it.
Instruction is most powerful when educators have access to high quality instructional materials and professional learning that promotes inclusive practice accessible to all students, including English learners and students with disabilities, and also supports authentic, engaging, and integrated student learning experiences.
To support standards-based learning, we believe that every student should engage:
· with grade-appropriate text every day
· with meaningful real-world problems every day
· in scientific conversations using data every week ... in a school environment that supports social-emotional learning, health, and safety.
Scope of Service:
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, under this Departmental Master Agreement, will identify individuals or organizations for professional copyediting and document design services.
Awarded copyediting and document design service vendors may need to work on a variety of materials, including but not limited to:
· Curriculum standards and framework documents
· Technical guidance documents
· Newsletters, brochures or other materials
· Website or social media content
· Training materials
· Progress reports
· Annual reports
This is just a sample of copyediting and document design projects. Actual projects will be made available by posting a Request for Response to COMMBUYS with the details of the project.
Hypothetical projects include.
· The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (the Department) is seeking a professional editor to review a technical document for an educational audience containing approximately 1,200 pages containing approximately 390,000-words, as well as comments made by 4 other reviewers and incorporate comments. Editor will also be asked to proofread, rearrange and substantially revise in order to improve readability while keeping content intact.
· The Department is seeking one or more vendors to provide professional copyediting and document design services to edit professional development materials for four graduate level courses in a fixed timeframe. The Deparement will provide a style guide and/or template to which the final document design must adhere.
· The Department is seeking a vendor to provide professional services for copyediting and document design of the ELA/literacy and mathematics frameworks. The ELA/Literacy frameworks document is approximately 175 pages; the math frameworks document is approximately 200 pages. Vendor must provide consistency between the two documents as well as within each one. For example, in the ELA/literacy framework we use “e.g.” within parentheses and “for example” without; that must be done consistently in the math framework as well.
· The Department is seeking a vendor to design a new instructional support newsletter. Content for the first edition will be provided to the vendor in an unformatted Word file. The vendor will copyedit the text and then design the document in accordance to ESE’s official style guide and web accessibility requirements. The designed document will serve as a template for future editions of the newsletter.
