About this file
This document is a Question and Answer response issued by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) regarding IFB 161277 for Fabricated Structural Steel, a bridge project in Western Loudoun County. The solicitation requests fabricated and galvanized structural steel to be delivered to NOVA Bridge Maintenance at 7940 Mason King Court, Manassas, Virginia 20109. The first Q&A response references Addendum #1 posted on eVA regarding procurement setup, noting that the quantities, lengths, and specifications match those of a recently extended contract. The second response addresses a bidder inquiry concerning the AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) Certification Program requirement for structural steel fabricators specified in Section IV, Specifications B #1 of the solicitation.
The Q&A document does not contain information regarding pricing terms, contract duration, award dates, set-asides, response deadlines, site visits, or bidders' conferences. The response to the AISC certification question does not provide a definitive waiver or exception but acknowledges that waivers have been granted in similar situations. Bidders should consult the full solicitation documents and subsequent addenda posted on eVA for complete specifications, deadlines, pricing requirements, and any determinations regarding the AISC certification mandate.

Question and Answer for IFB 161277 – Fabricated Structural Steel
1. In regard to procurement set up on EVA we noticed on it that it has the exact same quantities, lengths, et cetera, as the contract that was recently extended.
Please reference Addendum #1 posted on eVA.
2. I was looking over your solicitation IFB-A501-0000161277-1 for Fabricated Steel and noticed it calls out "Structural steel shall be fabricated in a shop certified by American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) under the Certification Program for Structural Steel Fabricators."
We follow all the same guidelines and regulations; however, we have not gone through the process to get our certification. Most of the time, from our experience, when we encounter this requirement, the customer waives the AISC Certification. Is this something that you have been asked or seen happen previously?
Please reference IV Specifications, B #1
