About this file

This is a U.S. Coast Guard Computerized Maintenance System (CMS) form and technical manual for the replacement of a Digital Steering Controller (DSC) on WPC-154 vessels. Document H20020.D, revised April 30, 2019, provides comprehensive maintenance procedures for replacing the DSC unit (Part Number 701126-1, NIIN 200112101) and configuring the system through multiple setup menus. The maintenance procedure encompasses preliminary steps including equipment lockout per COMDTINST 9077.1, removal of the old DSC controller, installation of the new unit, and reconnection of electrical wiring with verification of all terminations.

The technical manual details extensive configuration procedures across six primary DSC submenus and Station Control Processor (SCP) settings, including rudder angle calibration, system voltage settings, solenoid type and current parameters, power-up modes, alarm settings, dual synchronization functions, bumpless transfer configuration, and autopilot interface settings. Critical calibration submenu procedures require technicians to calibrate rudder feedback positions using either FFU input devices or keypad controls, moving the rudder to amidships and hard-over positions. Final steps include exiting setup mode, reinstalling panel covers, returning equipment to readiness condition, and documenting maintenance actions. The document explicitly prohibits password protection implementation on the DSC and requires completion of a Parts & Material Request/Use Form (CG-4491) for obtaining the replacement steering control unit. Tools, expendables, and consumables needed are specified, with appropriate warnings regarding electrical hazards and personal protective equipment requirements throughout the maintenance process.
