About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for solicitation 140R4026Q0022, issued by the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation for trailer-mounted MRG SFD Centrifugal Pumps. The document addresses two technical clarifications regarding pump specifications and requirements.

The first question clarifies that the specified minimum flow rate of 2,200 GPM at a total head not to exceed 182 feet does not represent normal operating conditions but rather the pump's worst-case head condition at minimum continuous stable flow near shutoff. The government confirmed that these specifications do not require a larger pump for actual operational duty. The second question addresses the requirement for an integrated flow meter with 5% accuracy, which the government confirmed must be supplied as part of the pump system. The flow meter must be suitable for solids-laden water applications, and an existing flow meter will not be utilized; therefore, the 4-20 mA output requirement referenced in the technical specifications is not applicable to this procurement.

140R4026Q0022 – MRG SFD Centrifugal Pumps

Amendment 0001 - Questions and Answers

1. In regards to these statements:

Minimum Flow Rate: 2,200 GPM Total Head: Not to exceed 182 ft

Is 2200 gpm @ 182 tdh the actual operating conditions?

If so, a larger pump may be required. Please confirm.

Government Response - The 2,200 GPM and 182 ft total head values listed in the specifications do not represent normal operating conditions. They reference the pump’s maximum head region (low flow, near shutoff) and were checked at the minimum continuous stable flow. This describes the pump’s worst-case head condition, not its typical duty point. Based on this, a larger pump is not required for the actual operating conditions.

2. In the technical specifications under general requirements, listed under number 4 Engine Control Panel, there is requirement for “Flow rate (via integrated flow meter, accurate to ±5%)”

Does this mean the pumps in the solicitation need to be supplied with a flow meter, or are you using an existing flow meter?

If existing, does it work off a 4-20mA output?

Government Response - In accordance with the specification, the pump system shall be furnished with an integrated flow meter suitable for solids-laden water and capable of maintaining an accuracy of ±5%. An existing flow meter will not be utilized for this application; therefore, the requirement for a 4–20 mA output is not applicable.
