Keno and Link Dam Log Boom Replacement Questions and Answers
1) Type of sediments for anchoring the sides of the boom?
A: Since this is a log boom replacement at each location, we will be using pre-existing anchor points. We will not be digging into the solid on either side of the river, as the anchor points are already set up. No earth movement is anticipated during installation (and our local O&M crew will install themselves).
2) The Depth of the water in the area where the boom will be anchored?
A:The log boom will be anchored on land not in water.
3) Is that depth fixed or variable and by what range of depth variation?
A: Approximate depth at mid channel for each location is variable. Keno (the 700 foot boom site) ranges between 13.5-15 feet depth. Link (460 -foot boom location) ranges between 5-11.5 feet.
4) Do you have a sketch of the area that needs the boom?
A: Pictures below are two google earth images that show the location of the log booms being replaced.

5) You state both HDPE and polyethylene material for the boom in several locations within the solicitation. Please confirm that you are wanting HDPE – which would be a co-extrusion HDPE with yellow outer color. When you state polyethylene shell, one could interpret that as a rotomolded product, which only can be formed with either LDPE and or MDPE. Co-extrusion HDPE and rotomolded polyethylene are two completely different products – with co-extrusion HDPE being superior.
A: HDPE with yellow outer color is what we are looking for.
6) You state that the diameter can be from 16” to 20”. There is a large difference between the two sizes. For your locations, 20” diameter and/or 24” diameter would be our preference for proper flotation, debris guidance etc. Since this is a firm fixed bid (not a design build format), Can you please specify specifically the diameter you would like quoted as there is a significant cost range between all diameters. Bidders will quote 16” to meet minimum requirement but for best performance, 24” would be ideal.
A: 20” maximum for the diameter
7) You state section lengths of 10” and or 20”. Would you also accept 25” sections or longer? (less hardware connections = less future inspection points and lower future o/m).
A: Longer log boom sections are acceptable. 25” or longer would be great.
