Question 1: Will the Government provide a schematic drawing to show the galleries?
Answer 1: Due to security protocols, drawings and maps of the dam's galleries are not provided.
However, the Government has provided a revision to Table 3 and a photo of the gallery.
Question 2: What are the accesses to the galleries?
Answer 2: The Government has provided the following information regarding the galleries:
In 2018 Reclamation cored eight holes through the concrete invert (floor) and into underlying bedrock in the dam's foundation galleries.
Reclamation personnel will escort the contractor to the holes. Galleries are accessible using an elevator that is located near the center of the dam, and at the dam crest. Six of the eight holes are accessible by taking the elevator to their respective gallery floor elevations. For those locations, carts can be used to transport geophysical equipment directly to the location of the holes. The remaining two locations are accessible by taking the elevator to the nearest floor above the respective galleries that the holes were advanced. A cart can be used for transporting equipment for a portion of the distance, but will equipment will need to be carried or lowered down spiral and/or straight set(s) of stairs (estimated up to 50 vertical feet). Galleries measure approximately 7 feet high (arched crown) and 5 feet wide. A 1 foot wide gutter is located on the upstream side of the invert/floor. See attached photo.
Hole depths range from 10.2 to 31.8 feet. Hole diameter is approximately 6 inches (up to 6-3/8 inches in some holes). Concrete was encountered to depths between 3.8 to 28.2 feet. Bedrock was encountered directly below concrete. See attached table for a summary of materials and conditions encountered in each hole. After coring, all holes were flushed with clean water.
Optical televiewer is to be performed first, followed by acoustic televiewer. Reclamation will provide water to fill the hole for acoustic
