About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding solicitation number 140P8623Q0107 from the National Park Service Pacific West Region for analyses of vegetation trends and statistical power at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Cabrillo National Monument, and Channel Islands National Park. The contractor will analyze vegetation trend data from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks only, and will use existing trend analyses from Cabrillo National Monument and Channel Islands National Park to model statistical power for detecting trends under different sample sizes. The power analysis will consider the current revisit designs and sample sizes for each park. The contractor is expected to examine approximately five sample sizes for each park and identify the sample size needed to achieve 80% statistical power. The quantitative summary should not include additional input from vegetation ecologists.

REQUEST FOR QUOTATION (RFQ) 140P8623Q0107

Analyses of Vegetation Trends and Statistical Power for MEDN I & M

Per SOW, TASK1:

Analysis of vegetation trends at CHIS

SAMO trend analysis of 12 outcomes of interest.

CORRECTION: Task 1 is for SAMO, not CHIS. Please ignore the typo error.

Per SOW, TASK 2:

Analysis of power to detect trends in vegetation trends SAMO, CABR, and CHIS

QUESTION: Do we need data for CABR and CHIS if we are using the previous trend analyses to obtain estimates of baseline status and variance composition estimates for the power simulation inputs?

ANSWER: NO.

QUESTION: Will the CABR and CHIS data be provided for updated trend analyses for CABR and CHIS?

ANSWER: NO, there will be no additional trend analyses for CABR and CHIS.

QUESTION: If the answers to the above questions are both "no", will the 12 CABR and CHIS outcomes of interest be selected from the suite of vegetation outcomes for which trend estimates were computed in the previous trend analyses?

ANSWER: YES.

QUESTION: Will all of the covariate data needed for the SAMO covariate modeling effort be provided with the SAMO data set?

QUESTION: Will the power analysis be conducted for the current revisit designs for each park with only changes to the annual sample sizes of sites?

QUESTION: How many sample sizes will you want to examine?

ANSWER: We anticipate approximately 5 sample sizes for SAMO, CABR, and the larger

CHIS islands, and likely fewer for the smaller islands. We'd like to know the power of the current sample size, and the sample size needed to obtain 80% power, and then get park staff feedback on what are realistic/feasible sample sizes if indeed larger sample sizes then the current numbers are needed. Ideally, we would be able to reduce our sample sizes and maintain >80% power.

QUESTION: One of the project objectives is "synthesize this information to explore patterns and better understand processes of vegetation dynamics and potential drivers of change." Is this a quantitative summary of statistical results?

QUESTION: or do you want additional input on inference from WEST vegetation ecologists?

ANSWER: NO, quantitative summary only.
