About this file

This is a Statement of Work Supplement that establishes fire prevention and hot work safety requirements for the Shade Structure Demolition project at Cabrillo National Monument. The supplement clarifies mandatory safety protocols applicable to all demolition and construction activities involving hot work operations, including welding, torch cutting, grinding, soldering, and any activity producing sparks, flame, or heat capable of igniting combustible materials.

The contractor must maintain a minimum of one fully charged and operable portable fire extinguisher rated not less than 2A:20BC in the active work area during all hot work operations. A dedicated fire watch is required during all hot work activities and for a minimum of three hours following completion of each day's operations. The fire watch personnel must have no other assigned duties, be trained in portable fire extinguisher use, continuously monitor the work area and adjacent combustible exposures for signs of smoke, heat, or fire, and possess authority to stop work and initiate emergency response actions if unsafe conditions develop. The contractor must immediately notify the Contracting Officer Representative or designated Government representative of any fire, smoke event, or unsafe condition. All work must comply with applicable OSHA standards, NFPA 51B (Standard for Fire Prevention During Welding, Cutting, and Other Hot Work), and all applicable federal, state, and local fire safety requirements.
