About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document supplementing a Request for Quotes for security system installation at John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (JODA), contract number 140P8326Q0045. The document clarifies technical requirements that quoters must incorporate into their proposals, with any differences from the original RFQ requiring pen and ink corrections by respondents.
The document addresses three primary technical questions regarding system installation. First, all new wiring is required for the intrusion detection system; contractors must price for new wiring throughout and cannot rely on existing unverified wiring, though existing raceway and pathways may be reused only if field-verified as suitable, code-compliant, properly separated from power and fire alarm wiring, and approved. Second, conduit or approved raceway is mandatory where wiring is exposed, subject to physical damage, required by code, required by equipment listing, or required by field conditions; concealed low-voltage wiring may be acceptable where permitted by code and installed per approved submittals, but exposed open wiring in maintenance and shop areas is explicitly prohibited. Third, ceiling heights are documented on an attached floor plan of the facility. The document includes a facility layout showing the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument maintenance shop with designated bays, storage areas, corridors, office spaces, and existing camera locations marked on the plan, providing contractors with spatial reference for installation planning and pricing.

Attachment 6: Questions and Answers Security System Installation 140P8326Q0045 John Day Fossil Beds National Monument (JODA)
The following are questions/answers that were brought up that supplement the Request for Quotes, and in some cases may provide some different information than what is stated in the Request for Quotes. Where there are differences, quoters shall make pen and ink changes in those sections of the Request for Quotes, with the information provided in this Question and Answer round.
1) Will all new wiring be required?
Yes. The contractor should assume new wiring for the new intrusion detection system.
Existing unverified wiring should not be relied on for pricing. Existing raceway/pathways may be reused only if field verified as suitable, code-compliant, properly separated from power and fire alarm wiring, and approved.
2) Is conduit required, or open wiring is acceptable?
Conduit or approved raceway is required where wiring is exposed, subject to physical damage, required by code, required by equipment listing, or required by field conditions. Concealed low-voltage wiring may be acceptable where permitted by code and installed in accordance with the approved submittals. Exposed open wiring in the maintenance/shop areas is not acceptable.
3) Can you please confirm the ceiling height?
See page two of Q&A for plan including ceiling heights.
