A04 STATEMENT OF WORK: FABRICATE & INSTALL GATE
1. BACKGROUND
Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE) is a U.S. national recreation area in Southeastern Nevada and Northwestern Arizona. Operated by the National Park Service, Lake Mead NRA follows the Colorado River corridor from the westernmost boundary of Grand Canyon National Park to just north of the cities of Laughlin, Nevada and Bullhead City, Arizona. LAKE offers many recreational opportunities including boating, hiking, fishing, and both tent and RV camping. Because of these attractions, dispersed camping of RV’s and campers in unauthorized areas has become a growing concern. Specifically, the Government Wash area of LAKE has become inundated with disperse camping that has resulted in resource damage, littering of trash, and lead to major health and safety concerns.
This project will fabricate and install a meta gate at the entrance to the Government Wash Road. The gate will be of metal pipe construction and will need to span the two-lane road to restrict access of vehicles during closures. The gate will have a removal center bollard to help support the gate arms when closed but will be removed from the road when opened. In addition to the gate, attachment poles will be installed to lock the gate arms in the open position. Gate drawings have been attached to this document as a guideline for fabrication and installation.
2. PROJECT LOCATION:
