About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a solicitation to repaint the exterior of a modular fire management office building located at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The government response indicates that repairing damaged particle board skirting instead of full replacement is acceptable, provided the repair treats all damaged areas with wood epoxy and caulk and the skirting is then scraped, primed, and painted as specified. Repair of trim is not required if skirting repair is undertaken. Photographs show examples of damaged skirting on the south and east sides that would require repair or replacement.

PAINT EXTERIOR OF FIRE MANAGEMENT OFFICE (FMO) MODULAR

BUILDING

question regarding project:

1) Part 1.1 B in the SOW says to replace (279 square feet) – Replace particle board skirting, including horizontal and vertical. It all looks to be in good shape, is it rotted and we just can’t see that from the pictures? If it’s not and it’s just weathered could the extent of wood repair just be treating that small section, that’s cut on the south side, with backing and wood epoxy and then caulk scrape and prime as specified in the SOW. By not replacing the particle board skirting and trim, especially if it’s all in good shape, it’ll keep the cost down considerably while still delivering a lasting job.

a. Govt Response. See attached photos for damaged skirting. Repairing damaged skirting instead of replacing is acceptable. If repairing the damaged skirting instead of replacing it, the trim does not need to be replaced as well.
