I had a couple questions regarding the Wall Rehab in Ste Gen.
1. Part 1 - General - Section 1.2 - A - 2
a. Indicates all fill material between the wall that the structure will be hand excavated.
i. Is Hydro Excavation utilizing a Vacuum Truck allowable?
Yes, Hydro Excavation is allowable with a park-provided Archeologist to monitor the progress.
ii. If allowable is one lane traffic supported by the use of flaggers permittable?
Although not required by the contract, the contractor is able to include this as a part of their Traffic Control Submittal, means and methods, with the understanding that it is on the contractor to obtain all permits with the local jurisdiction to close the road while work is taking place and that the road is re-opened at the end of the work day/weekend.
2. Part 1 - General - Section 1.2 - Shoring
2. Indicates that the front porch is to be supported by cribbing
1. If the wall is dismantled and replaced in short (20 ft sections), minimizing the linear exposure, will the shoring be necessary?
The Div 01 says 'cribbing/shoring' which leaves it to some flexibility in the means and methods. The Contractor shall still submit a shoring plan, and in that plan, if proceeding with short (20') sections is part of the strategy to include that as part of the plan. The Contractor shall include in their shoring plan what measures they intend to employ in addition to the short sections, even if they are intended to be added should the need arise, which is also cited in the Div 01 that additional measures may be required if conditions warrant.
3. Part 1 - General - Section 1.2 - Reconstruction
3. Indicates that 100% re-use is anticipated
1. Many of the stones are broken and cracked and dismantling them could result in the destruction of the stone completely.
1. Does the department have a viable source for replacing the unusable stones?
The NPS would like to add an allowance of up to 15% limestone replacement if the stones are unusable for reconstruction.
4. Can you clarify the intent for the proposed subbase to be installed under the wall prior to replacement?
Contractor shall over excavate a minimum of 6 inches to a maximum of 8 inches place a non-woven Geotextile fabric on hand-tamped soil and place 6-in minimum of 1in-minus limestone with fines to bear the wall. Transport all soil material to designated site within the park, upon approval from the COR.
Good morning. Would you please add one more question to your list? Bridget, Is it possible to allow shoring the porch cover the wall drain area back dig the wall brace the wall tip to just beyond level add footing and under fill with vibrated concrete?
This would allow the original look to remain.
Any cracked areas could be fixed.
If allowed it could bring the cost down to 90K or so.
The proposed means and methods are missing key elements of the written scope and does not meet the specifications.
