About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Request for Quote (RFQ) for cyclic maintenance of the Motor Vessel Fort Jefferson at Dry Tortugas National Park. The Q&A covers technical details about the vessel's specifications and maintenance requirements, including fuel tank capacity (6000+ gallons), crane specifications (3-ton marine crane preferred), shaft details (3.5-inch stainless steel), and specific maintenance instructions such as bottom paint removal and addressing corrosion areas. Key points include the shipyard's intention to limit onboard fuel to 1000 gallons or less during maintenance, the presence of a small hole in the port aft day tank requiring repair, and clarifications about bottom paint removal and hull thickness measurements.

Questions and Answers

1. Is a docking plan for MVFJ available? - Sent to Will Vazquez as a PDF. and attached to this e-mail (this was a scan utilizing my phone. the original docking plan is on a 3'x4' piece of paper)

2. Is a pre-haul sea trial performance sheet available? NO, we would want to conduct a pre haul sea trial with the shipyard prior to haul out.

3. Is the last Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) available? NO, I have not been able to retrieve this from our last Dry Dock at SwiftShips in Morgan City LA

4. How much fuel will need transferred? We will do our best to keep this at a minimum. The ship has a 6000 + gallon tank capacity. We will try and limit our fuel on board upon arrival to 1000 gallons or less.

5. What is the current make & model crane in use? North Pacific Crane Company, serial #

MCT-225-14-2127

6. Does NPS staff or MVFJ crew have a crane manufacturer preference? No specific preference on brand, but a marine crane with a minimum 3 ton capacity, North Pacific, Appleton, Allied are three brands we have looked at

7. What material, diameter & length shaft? Prop size? The shaft diameter is 3.5 inch stainless steel. Could not find length, could not find prop size.

8. 6.16 – confirming complete blast bottom paint removal, not just “corroded & damaged areas” in 6.15. Bottom does not necessarily need to be blasted down to bare aluminum.

Removal of all anti-foulant paint, but existing primer coat can remain. If there are detected areas of corrosion, those spots would be blasted to bare metal and UT shots will need to be made to measure hull thickness.

9. 16.18 - What size are the deck plates for the fuel tanks? The deck plates to the fuel tank access are 28”x 28”, the manhole cover access to the tank itself is approximately 24”x 24”.

10. 16.20.1 - What is the location of the known repair in the port aft day tank? There is a small hole (nickel to quarter size) that has a temporary plug (bolt and JB weld) near the access plate to the tank. Basically, it is the rook of the tank. Along the edge where the manhole access cover meets the roof of the tank.
