STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)

(Revised 8/4/21) Water System Improvement Project Cosby, TN Great Smoky Mountains National Park Cosby Campground, Maintenance, and Residence Area

1. General Information The Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GRSM) is located in Tennessee and North Carolina and consists of nearly 521,000 acres. The park was established by Congress on June 15, 1934. The Park’s mission is to protect, preserve, and interpret the natural, cultural, and historical resources for the benefit and inspiration of present and future generations. There are over 9 million visitors annually.

2. Facility Background The Cosby Campground and the Maintenance/Residence area are located on the Park access road off of Hwy 32, just east of the intersection with Hwy 321. The Maintenance/Residence Area is located on the left side of the access road approximately one mile from the intersection with Hwy 32. The Campground is located at the end of the Park access road. The Maintenance Area consists of one structure with both office and storage space. The Residential Area includes the Ranger Station, two (2) duplex residential structures, and an apartment building. The Campground includes eight (8) Comfort Stations, an entrance kiosk, and a residential house, which is used for maintenance purposes.

It is proposed to install a new potable water distribution system to both areas. Improvements for each area are described in the following section.

WATER SYSTEM

The Maintenance/Residence Area water system consists of approximately 2,430 linear feet of 6-inch waterline. The original waterline was 6-inch cast iron; and was installed in 1958. The cast iron line was replaced with 6-inch PVC in 1988. That line has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced. The waterline for the Campground Area consists of approximately 1,180 linear feet of 4-inch waterline, and 1,320 linear feet of 2-inch waterline. These lines were also installed originally in 1958; and replaced in 1988 with PVC. This line has also reached the end of its service life.

3. Scope of Work The scope of work for each system is as follows:

WATER SYSTEM

The scope of work includes replacing the existing 4-inch and 6-inch PVC waterlines with 4-inch Ductile Iron waterlines. The 2-inch water services to the existing Comfort Stations will also be replaced with 2-inch High Density Polyethylene waterline. The service lines will be installed up to the existing valve boxes outside of the Comfort Stations. The valve and box for some Comfort Stations (whose valves have not yet been changed) will also be replaced as part of this work. The 3/4-inch service lines from the main to the original drinking fountains are also included in the scope of work. The service lines to the residential units and to the Maintenance Building will be completely replaced all the way to the buildings, including all pipe, valves and valve boxes/

4. Contractor Responsibilities Contractor Shall Provide the Following Materials and Services:

(All materials and installations shall be in accordance with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation standards and specifications)

The Campground will be closed during the proposed work, and the existing waterline will be taken out of service; therefore, maintenance of water service will not be required during the course of the work.

The Maintenance/Residential Area will be in use; therefore, water disruptions will need to be coordinated in advance.

WATER SYSTEM

· 4-INCH DUCTILE IRON WATERLINE:
