Questions and Answers

Question 1. Are areas around the cannons on Fort Moultrie in the rock and concrete areas cut with string trimmers or chemically treated acceptable?

Answer: Herbicide is acceptable. All chemical products must be submitted and approved by the NPS for use in different areas. We also do not want to use any treatment to the extent it results in large areas of exposed dirt/sand.

Question 2. Are autonomous mowers allowed?

Answer: The technical approach for all equipment and services requires a safety plan. Though not prohibited, automated mowers have not been used in the parks yet and there would be serious concerns about their use near the visiting public and historic structures. As with all equipment, it would require a trained operator and could not be operated unattended. We would also not want them operated near structures. If proposing automated equipment please provide a detailed operations and safety plan including information on where this equipment would be used.

Question 3. Are insecticide treatments the responsibility of the NPS are can it be added as an additional service?

Answer: Insecticide treatments could be added as an additional service. Please make sure to list this as a distinct line item if you are proposing this as an add-on.

Question 4. Are contractors subject to the rules of Sullivan’s Island when it comes to working on the island?

Answer: Yes. Sullivan’s Island rules and regulations apply, as do those of Mt. Pleasant.

Question 5. Are there specific hours that work cannot be conducted on Sullivan’s Island?

Answer: Please see the Performance Work Statement for working hours. All local noise ordinances do apply on our sites.
