HOFU 542HOFU-00120STEELYARDMS BR CAB 17 D5; BH U1 S33Identified in old accession as two weights and steelyard. The large weight is pear-shaped with "lid" on top and a small circular "pedestal" on bottom to balance it. Ring is heavy wire inserted into top. Small weight is more round than large one, ring is cast along with weight. Has ornamental shaping as the large one. Has "A17" on one side. Steelyard - One hook to hang from, three weight hooks. One end is decorated with a "spade", the other by a round button. Marking measurements nearly is similar to small weight, large weight may have been bastardized. Weights are not similar, thus suggesting that originally these three were not a set. The large weight seems to have been added. A steelyard, almost identical to the one in our collection, is at the Peter Wentz Farmstead. Along with the steelyard was a single weight, a learge pear-shaped weight similar to cat.#542. The similarity suggests that the pear-shaped weight might belong to the steelyard. Originally assigned old acc.# 301 and cat.# 542 in 1941. Reassigned new acc#120 circa 1960.
