REPLACE DOMESTIC HOT WATER HEATER

1.0 Background

The Anacostia Operations Facility (AOF) located at 1901 Anacostia Drive at the southern end of Anacostia Park adjacent to Marion Barry Boulevard serves as headquarters for the Special Forces, Criminal Investigations, and Training Branches. The major areas of patrol include Anacostia Park, the Suitland Parkway, Fort Dupont Park, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, and Fort Washington Park, Frederick Douglass Historic Home and the remaining NPS reservations in the District of Columbia east of the Anacostia River.

2.0 Purpose

The building’s domestic hot water heater system at AOF was designed with two gas-fired water heaters, each with a 225-gallon capacity, providing a total of 450 gallons of hot water for the entire 75,730 sf.

facility. The intention of the hot water design was to deliver redundancy, allowing the system to continue operating if one of the water heaters fails. Water Heater #2 failed, forcing water heater #1 to carry the entire load. The failure of water heater #1 due to the increased load would result in the complete disruption of hot water, posing significant risks to health, hygiene and essential operations at

AOF.

3.0 Scope

National Park Service (NPS) requires all labor, material, supplies, and equipment necessary to replace one (1) new PVI 225-gallon 199 MBH gas-fired water heater in the existing location. Replacing the water heater will return the hot water system to its original design, delivering redundancy to ensure continued uninterrupted supply of hot water.
