About this file

This document is an Amendment (0001) to a National Park Service solicitation for fire hydrant maintenance and repair at Grand Canyon National Park. The amendment includes a questions and answers section addressing three key contractor inquiries: hydrant numbering specifications, handling of "Out of Service" hydrants, and vegetation clearing requirements. Specific details include:

The contractor must repaint and re-stencil hydrants with 2-inch high identification numbers, facing forward on the bonnet or body. For "Out of Service" hydrants, the requirement is to install a new hydrant marker, paint the body, and stencil the hydrant ID number. Vegetation clearing involves removing brush, bushes, and overhanging branches within a three-foot radius, to be performed by a landscape contractor with at least one year of relevant experience. The solicitation is for the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, with the contracting officer being Taylor Jones, contactable at Taylor_A_Jones@nps.gov or 520-780-9294.

QUESTIONS:

Question # Question Answer/Response

1. Do you have a picture/example of how you'd like to have these hydrants numbered? Just want to make sure they closely resemble those already numbered

All hydrants will be repainted and therefore re stenciled. Re-stenciling will ensure park-wide uniformity. Requirement is for a 2” high stencil, forward facing, and on bonnet or body

(to be coordinated prior to work start)

2. How would you like the contractor to proceed with "Out of Service" hydrants?

Install new hydrant marker, paint the body, and stencil hydrant ID number.

3. Is vegetation cleaning including removal of brush or bush branches within a 36" radius of the hydrant? Any removal of tree stumps, trees, or bushes will be done by a licensed landscape company?

Vegetation clearing involves the removal of brush, bushes, and overhanging branches within a three-foot radius. No trees or stumps are present within this area, ensuring a straightforward removal process. The work will be carried out by a landscape contractor with at least one year of relevant experience.
