About this file
This document is an amendment to a solicitation for the rehabilitation of valves, pumps, and headworks at the North Rim Wastewater Treatment Plant in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. The National Park Service is seeking to replace valves, pumps, and the headworks and install a new ladder system and roof over existing vaults and pits. The time and date for receipt of proposals is extended to August 3, 2022 at 2:00pm local time. Questions from potential offerors are included regarding allowable work times due to plant operations, the structural integrity of the concrete walls and ability to support a new roof, and details of the column base plates for a cover over sludge holding ponds. The agency responses maintain the design as shown in the contract documents.

AZ CONTRACTOR QUESTIONS/ANSWERS
1. The period of performance on this project calls out September 22’ – June 23’. It was brought to our attention at the site visit that there was only a short period of time (within those dates) that the new pumps and valves could be replaced due to the fact that the treatment plant can not be completely pumped out and has to be in use during different times. Can you confirm with us the time that work can be done on the new pumps, valves, headworks and ladder system?
RESPONSE: See Spec Section 01 11 00 – Summary of Work, Paragraph 1.4.A.
2. There was a lot of talk at the site visit about the concrete walls failing if the weight of a structural steel roof system was added to them. There were some on the site that seemed to think the concrete surrounding the vaults has already been compromised over time and is already failing. Has this been verified by the engineer?
RESPONSE: Design to remain as shown on Contract Documents.
3. There was also talk about the roof system barely being sloped. The operator on site said that was unacceptable to him however, that is what the plans show. He said it is common to see 10 feet of snow pile up on things and that the snow needs to slide off the roof. All the existing areas in that WWTP have pretty good sloped green aluminum roofs. The drawn system itself looks like it was designed to hold the snow load. However, that leads back to the previous question. Is the substrate strong enough to hold the new system with the snow load as well?
Has it been verified that the roof “as drawn” is how you would like it to be bid and installed?
RESPONSE: Design to remain as shown on Contract Documents
4. After reviewing Addendum #2, I did not see an answer to the question regarding the cover over the pits (Sludge Holding Ponds).
Please see attached PDF showing the condition of the pond wall and the requirements for the column base plates (see snapshot below from sheet S4.1 Roof Framing Details) I (we) do not believe that the existing conditions will not allow to install as shown t=on the drawings. Please advise.
