About this file

This is a Scope of Work for a construction project at Chamizal National Memorial in El Paso, Texas. The project involves the demolition and replacement of 9 metal shade structures in the picnic area, with work to be completed within 60 days of the Notice to Proceed. All construction work is restricted to weekday hours between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm, with no work permitted on weekends or National Park Service holidays without prior approval. The contractor must minimize dust, fumes, and construction debris while protecting adjacent areas and maintaining compliance with environmental protection regulations. Staging areas are limited and must be located at the maintenance shop, with all areas restored to pre-construction conditions upon completion.

Each 10-foot by 10-foot shade structure requires installation of four steel posts (3" X 3" X 3/16" square tube, 12 feet long) set 24 inches deep in 4,000 psi concrete, five welded steel rafters (2" X 6" X 3/16" rectangular tube, 10 feet long), and coverage with factory-painted 26-gauge steel roofing panels featuring a pitched design for natural drainage. All structural welds must be ground and cleaned of flux before priming and painting with Behr Premium Semi-Gloss Direct-To-Metal paint per owner specifications. Roof panels are secured with self-drilling, self-sealing rubber washer screws at 24-inch spacing, and all exposed sheet metal edges require 2-1/2" galvanized steel flashing with a one-half inch downstream gap for drainage. The contractor must also repair damaged concrete pads on three existing sites and remove all waste daily. Sustainable and environmentally friendly materials are required throughout the project. The Contracting Officer is Nathan Ziegler (605-574-0480), and the Contracting Officer's Representative is Alejandro Tapia at Chamizal National Memorial (912-532-7273, Ext 119).
