About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file for Solicitation 140L6225Q0035 AMD 0002, related to a BLM Wyoming Jonah Housepit Synthesis archaeological project. The solicitation involves analyzing archaeological collections from 12 sites, specifically examining approximately 5,000 bone/faunal fragments and 2,000 lithic materials. The project requires a comprehensive analysis of these archaeological specimens, including potential obsidian sourcing and carbon-14 dating, with collections currently curated at the University of Wyoming.

The updated period of performance runs from August 30, 2025, through April 30, 2026, with key submission deadlines including December 30, 2025, for review and analysis, February 15, 2026, for draft report submission, and March 30, 2026, for final report submission. The project is a separate standalone report within a larger research project, and contractors are advised to contact the University of Wyoming Archaeological Repository (UWAR) for additional details about sample access and preliminary analysis. The solicitation is set aside for small businesses and will result in a firm-fixed price contract for archaeological examination of the lithic and faunal collections.

Questions and Answers

Solicitation: 140L6225Q0035 BLM WY Jonah Housepit Synthesis

1. Are there multiple housepits from each site, or just a single housepit?

a. Some sites have multiple housepits and some are single housepits.

2. Where are the collections curated?

a. University of Wyoming. UWAR 1000 E University Ave. Dept. 3431 Laramie, WY 82071 Office: (307) 766-3671

3. Will the contractor be responsible for curating the collection (getting collection ready for final curation)?

a. No, this is purely an analysis for the end product report.

4. Is a file search through WyoTrack will be necessary for the data review?

a. Yes.

5. In assessing raw material selection, although typical in low numbers, obsidian sourcing would be a useful tool.

a. Yes, it would. Please feel free to do that.

6. Will the contractor be responsible for submitting c14 dates? Analyzing and selecting dates, and receiving the results, may require more time than is allocated for the final report.

a. Yes, they are responsible for submitting necessary c14 dates. Some artifacts and features may have already been dated in prior reports. Those dates are acceptable to use as is.

7. Can the BLM provide a sample report so the amount and nature of previous work can be used to assess the extent of the lithic and faunal assemblages for budgeting purposes?

a. Yes, sample report is attached.

8. Are these the correct dates for submission? Draft report 30 October 2025, final report 30 November 2025?

a. The statement of work has been updated. Please review the updated deadlines and period of performance.

Part A: Review and analysis Dec 30, 2025 Part B: Draft report submission Feb 15, 2026 Part C: Final report submission Mar 30, 2026

Updated Period of Performance: Aug 30, 2025 through Apr 30, 2026

Solicitation: 140L6225Q0035 AMD 0002

9. Is this a continuation of work by the original contractor?

a. No, this is a separate project. It is part of an overarching research project, but this report will stand alone and does not need to reference the other two unless the contractor deems it necessary.

10. If these dates are correct, there is potentially a large amount of material to be analyzed in that short window.

a. See question 8 above. Please review the updated deadlines in the Statement of Work and period of performance.

11. Can the faunal and lithic assemblages be sampled? In looking at other housepit assemblages, such as 48SU5084, there are 5,768 stone tools, and the faunal NISP is 14,260. An accurate accounting of the number of specimens to be analyzed would help provide an accurate proposal and budget.

a. Please reach out to UWAR for how to access the samples.

12. Have the assemblages been sorted, or has any initial analysis been conducted that can be shared?

a. Please reach out to UWAR for answers to this question.

13. Could provide an estimate for the quantity of both the lithic and faunal specimens that will be analyzed for this project?

a. There are approximately 5000 bone/faunal fragments across all 12 sites and 2000 lithic materials that will be analyzed for this project.
