ROCKART STRONGLY RECOMMENDS the following for the best results:

• We recommend a crew of 3 to 4 persons that are physically strong enough to perform the installation.

• Assembly time takes approximately 2 to 3 hours.

• Ensure the items listed at the bottom of page 1 will be available.

• Hardware and small tools may ship to you separately via UPS at the same time your Kiosk(s) ships.

• If directions seem ambiguous please remember this guide was written with the assumption that the reader is facing the front side of the Kiosk (unless otherwise noted).

• A special hex wrench with a hole in the end is supplied to assemble the roof panels. One is supplied with every Kiosk and is painted RED.

• You will need two (2), #03-524 3-piece Assembly Fixtures. NOTE: DO NOT attempt to use actual Kiosk

Sign Panels in place of an Assembly Fixture! These temporary fixtures help maintain proper spacing between posts during installation. By using them, you need not worry about damaging your actual sign panels, if something goes wrong.

• IMPORTANT: Keep the boxes used to ship the Aluminum Assembly Fixtures. They can be used to return-ship the undamaged fixture(s) back to ROCKART, so we may refund the deposit fee (less shipping costs).

Stage I - Assemble & Install the Kiosk Getting Started

1 REVIEW Pages 1 & 2. Get familiarized with the kiosk part names & numbers.

2 DIG HOLES – Using the hole digging guide on Page 3.

3 ENSURE all holes are only 30” deep for proper viewing height of kiosk sign panels!

Part 1 : Preparation & Pre-Assembly

1 ASSEMBLE each of the 3-piece Assembly Fixtures (#03-524) using eight (8) 3/8-16 x .75” hex head bolts, nuts and washers from hardware kit #03-918. Note: Do not apply Anti-Seize on the Assem-bly Fixture’s bolts! DON’T LOSE the unused hardware, they will be needed later. SET the assembled fixtures aside for now.

2 CLEAN all 3/8” threaded holes with a 3/8-16 tap and tap wrench to REMOVE any corrosion, debris and paint from the threads of all roof panels and posts before beginning assembly. (See Fig 1.1)

3 If your kiosk does NOT include shingle overlays (model #’s ending in ‘-WOS’), skip ahead to Part 2A;

otherwise, FOLLOW the steps below to PRE-ASSEMBLE the Shed Roof panels:

4 For each Shed Roof panel subassembly (#03-455 & 03-451 / 03-452) : PLACE it across 2 sawhorses with the top side up. LAY a matching shingle overlay (#03-456 & 03-458 / 03-454 respectively) on top of the roof panel.

5 ENSURE the “steps” in the overlay stair-step in a downward direction and also that the short step of the shingle overlay is at the bottom. (See Fig 1.2 for details) ALIGN the corner holes then SECURE the shingle to the roof panel using #10-16 x .5 Hex Washer Head screws from #03-915. Once the 4 corners are secured, DRIVE screws into the remaining holes, using the pre-drilled holes in the shingle overlay as a guide.

6 REPEAT steps 4 & 5 for the remaining shed roof panel. SET the assembled roof panels aside for now.

Part 2A : Main Section Assembly

1 PLACE each of the top (capped) ends of Post #1 (03-474) & Post #2 (03-475 or 03-476) across a saw horse. POSITION so that the non angled sign mounting tabs are pointing at each other. The un-capped (bottom) ends of these 2 posts should be positioned over their respective holes (See Fig 2).

PLACE a 2x6, 36” long wood plank in each hole (stand it on end, so it is perpendicular to the kiosk post) See Fig 3. Later on, this will serve as a kind of backstop/guide for the posts (as they are lowered into the holes) and will help minimize surrounding dirt from falling into the holes.

2 USE (4) 3/8-16 bolts, nuts and washers (from #03-918) to ATTACH an Assembly Fixture (#03-524) to the BACKSIDE of the 4 slotted tabs between Post #1 & #2 (See Fig 4). READ Important Notes on Page 2, and Fig 5 for more details. The 1” angled flange should point towards the BACK of the kiosk. TIGHTEN these 4 bolts after VERIFYING that the sides of the Assembly Fixture are flush

3 ATTACH (3) Shed roof mounting plates #03-449 to Posts 1 & 2, by following the Guide for Shed Roof Mounting Plate Installation on Page 2. Post #1 requires one shed roof mounting plate (the side op-posite the 2 slotted tabs); Post #2 requires two plates (at the top of the post, above the slotted tabs). ENSURE that the support arm of the roof mounting plate (with the U-shaped notch) is on the FRONT SIDE of the Kiosk.

USE (4) of the 3/8-16 x .75” long, pin-in, stainless steel button head bolts from #03-911 to ATTACH each plate (see Fig 6 ). Apply a dab of Anti-Seize to each bolt first. DON’T over-tighten bolts!

4 Helped by others who are physically capable, LIFT the top ends of posts 1 & 2, ALLOWING the bottom ends to SLIDE down into their respective holes. (Similar to Fig 7.1 & 7.2)

5 Once the posts are sitting in the holes and are positioned (as close as possible) to the center of their respective holes, SUPPORT the structure front and back using 2x4 x 12’ long wood planks and con-crete spikes as necessary.

TIP: If available, PLACING several large rocks into the holes, (in the open space around each post) may help further stabilize the structure.

Part 2B : Angled Section Assembly

1 As before, PLACE the capped (top) end of Post #3 (#03-474) across a saw horse, with the bottom of the post suspended over it’s respective hole. PLACE a 36” long 2x6 wooden plank into hole #3 (stand it on end, so it is perpendicular to the steel post) See Fig 3.

2 ATTACH the final Shed Roof Mounting Plate #03-449 to the top (capped end) of this post on the side opposite from the slotted mounting tabs using (4) 3/8-16 x .75” long, pin-in, stainless steel button head bolts from #03-911. ENSURE that the extended arm of the mounting plate is on the FRONT

Don’t over-tighten these bolts yet. After these 6 bolts are installed, REMOVE the two “swivel” bolts from step 2 and REPLACE them with (2) more button head bolts from #03-911. (See Fig 10)

5 REPEAT the previous steps 1-4 to INSTALL the Angled Shed Roof panel (#03-451 / 03-452). REFER to Fig 8.2 when INSTALLING the two (2) “swivel” bolts.

Part 4 : Final Steps

1 CHECK & TIGHTEN all loose bolts & screws starting with the bolts securing each of the Shed Roof mounting plates, followed by the bolts securing the Roof panels to the mounting plates.

2 REMOVE the 2x6 x 36 wood planks from the holes (from earlier). If the structure seems unstable, add more SUPPORT using 12’ long, 2x4 wood planks, and concrete spikes.

3 ENSURE the left/right edges of each Assembly Fixture remain flush against each of the vertical posts and all 4 corner bolts securing them to the posts are tight.

4 USE a framer’s level to CHECK the kiosk to VERIFY that it is level (Similar to Fig 12).

Tip: To elevate one side that is lower than the rest, make a stack of 2x4 or 2x6 wood planks di-rectly below the Assembly Fixture (on the low side). PLACE the bottle jack on top of the stack.

INCREASE the jack height until the jack pushes against the 1” angled flange (at the bottom of of the Assembly Fixture). CONTINUE raising the lower side until the structure becomes level (Similar to Fig 13).

5 FOLLOW manufacturer’s directions to MIX & POUR concrete into each hole (Similar to Fig 14). Now sit back and relax while the concrete hardens.

Message Center Kiosk STAGE II - Sign Panel Installation

STAGE II - Sign Panel Installation

Installation Note for Fully-Enclosed* Sign Panels:

Before mounting a Fully-Enclosed* Sign Panel to the Kiosk, check the orientation of the removable side rail. Fully-Enclosed sign panel displays will have 3 to 5 bolts embedded within this rail (circled on left) that secure the entire display and when installed, and should be along the right side.

For sign panels that include Routed Text across the header and/or footer, verify that the text is displayed as desired.

How to properly install a VandlGard® tamper-resistant nut:

If your kiosk sign panel included tamper-resistant mounting hardware, the odd-looking nuts are tamper resistant and should be installed as follows:

Start by threading the wide, tapered end of the cone-shaped nut onto the end of the bolt as shown by the green arrow (see top image, left). Twist clock-wise with fingers & thumb, until snug.

Using a hex wrench or pair of pliers, continue to tighten the Hex part of the nut until the hex part breaks off... leaving the conical part behind (see bottom image, left). Discard the hex nut. ... all done!

* A Fully-Enclosed Sign Panel protects the displayed content completely (on every side). These models feature a removable side rail (on either the left or right side), and a protective clear polycarbonate cover that is also removable.

Opening a “fully-enclosed” Sign Panel:

To open a Fully-Enclosed* Sign Panel (to change out the signage) you will need the special YELLOW colored Hex tool (included with fully-enclosed displays) to remove the 3 to 5 bolts along the right side (don’t lose them!). Remove the side rail. Grab the tail-end of the flexible security rod sitting on top of the clear polycarbonate cover, and pull it completely out of the channel through the opening (see image, left).

Slide the clear polycarbonate cover over enough to allow you to grasp it firmly on both left & right sides. Lift it straight up, pushing the top edge deeper into the top channel. Now, pivot the bottom edge of the cover out from the display (i.e., towards yourself). Take note which side was facing out (and when done, return it accordingly).

Place the clear cover in an area that is clean as possible while swapping out content.

When finished, simply follow these steps in reverse order. Don’t forget to RE-INSERT the flexible security rod ! Finally, use the YELLOW hex tool as before to secure the side access rail using the same bolts removed earlier.

Message Center Kiosk Removing Polycarbonate Cover

Removing Polycarbonate Cover

Removing the Cover

Important! DO NOT REMOVE the 4 Corner Bolts that secure the Sign Panel to the Kiosk!

1 USE the special YELLOW hex wrench (included with your sign panel) to REMOVE the tamper-resistant bolts usually located on the right side of a sign panel (from the Front side of kiosk). Don’t lose these bolts! The nuts are embedded in either the tack-board (for single-sided panels) or in a matching removable side rail on the opposing side (double-sided panels) and should stay in place while the bolts are removed.

Remove bolts marked as “1” (see figure, right).

2 REMOVE the side rail (or rails) of the Sign Panel and set aside.

3 PULL OUT the Flexible PLASTIC ROD inserted into the space above the polycarbonate cover. Don’t lose it! (This important security feature prevents vandals from removing the cover themselves)

4 SLIDE the cover over about an inch, so you can FIRMLY GRASP both sides.

5 LIFT the cover straight up into the top grooved channel then PIVOT the bottom edge towards your body, until it is completely free. Set the cover aside (somewhere clean) so it can be replaced with the same side facing outward. (Remember which side faces out... since UV or Anti-Graffiti films are usually applied to one side only.)

6 SWAP OUT SIGN CONTENT

Replacing the Cover

NOTE: Replace the cover with same side facing out (UV or Anti-Graffiti films are usually applied to one side only).

1 GRASP the left & right sides of the cover, INSERT the top edge fully into the top grooved channel.

2 PIVOT the bottom edge of cover to line up with the bottom grooved channel. Carefully RELEASE it, allowing it to sit in the bottom grooved channel.

3 GENTLY SLIDE the cover left/right (toward the non-removable side rail) until it cannot go any further.

4 RE-INSERT the Flexible PLASTIC ROD into the gap just above the cover itself.

5 Finally, REPLACE the vertical rail(s) and secure with the tamper-resistant bolts using the special YELLOW hex wrench.

Stuff You Need to Know These Instructions Apply to:

• You’ll need the specially-keyed, L-shaped YELLOW hex wrench #08-619 (included with fully-enclosed ROCKART® Sign Panels).

• The tackboard is VERY dense; thumbtacks and push-pins cannot penetrate it. Consider using an industrial staple gun with heavy duty staples.

• Keep the inside of the sign panel as clean as possible: While performing the steps below, avoid placing removed components directly on the ground. Using a tarp or other ground cover is recommended!

ROCKART®

Message Center Kiosk Standard Sign Panels

(Full-sized & Fully-Enclosed Single-or Double-sided Sign Panels)

IF YOU ARE REPLACING A DAMAGED COVER: If there are any protective (opaque) liners applied to either side of a polycarbonate cover REMOVE the protective liner from the cover as soon as possible. If the liner is exposed to sunlight for extended periods, it may be very difficult to remove.

Message Center Kiosk Stage II - Sign Panel Installation

Installation note for “fully-enclosed” Sign Panels:

Before mounting a Fully-Enclosed* Sign Panel to the Kiosk, check the position of the removable side rail. The 3 to 5 bolts embedded within this rail (circled on left) are used to secure the entire display and when installed, should be located on the right side, vertically aligned.

If the sign panel was ordered with the optional routed text on the header and/or footer, ensure the text is oriented correctly and is readable when viewing the front side of the kiosk.

How to properly install a VandlGard® tamper-resistant nut:

If your kiosk sign panel included tamper-resistant mounting hardware, the strange looking nuts are tamper resistant and should be installed as follows:

Start by threading the wide, tapered end of the cone-shaped nut onto the end of the bolt as shown by the green arrow (top image, left). Hand tighten, until snug.

Using a handheld wrench or pliers, continue tightening the Hex part of the nut until the hex part shears off... leaving the conical part in place (bottom image, left). Discard the hex nut. ...Done!

*Fully-Enclosed models protect the displayed content on all sides. These models typically include at a removable side rail on either the left or right side, and a clear polycarbonate cover that is also removable.

Opening a “fully-enclosed“ Sign Panel:

To open up a fully-enclosed* Sign Panel to change the content inside use the special YELLOW colored hex tool (included in the hardware kit) to perform the following steps:

After the 3 to 5 bolts along the right side have been removed (keep in a safe place), Remove the side access rail. Grab the tail-end of the flexible security rod sitting in the narrow grooved channel just above the clear cover, and pull it completely out through the opening (see image, left).

Then slide the clear polycarbonate cover over just enough to allow you to grasp it firmly by the left & right sides. Lift it straight up, inserting the top edge deeper into the top channel. Now, swing the bottom edge of the cover out and away from the front of the kiosk (towards your body). Take note which side was facing out (and when done, return it accordingly).

Place the clear cover in an area that is clean as possible while changing content.

After changes to the content are done: Simply reinstall the clear polycarbonate cover; Don’t forget to RE-INSERT the flexible security rod ! Finally, using the special YELLOW hex tool (included), Re-attach the side access rail using the bolts removed earlier.
