About this file
This document is a Q&A amendment to a federal solicitation for GAOA South Dakota Bridge Replacements (Solicitation Number: 140L0624R0025). It indicates that the Bureau of Land Management will allow the use of a treated timber deck and railing system as an alternate to the originally specified corrugated metal steel deck, as long as all other design requirements are still met. The solicitation is for the design and construction of bridge replacements, and the Q&A clarifies that a timber-based deck and railing system is an acceptable substitution.

140L0624R0025 Amendment 4 GAOA SD Bridge Replacements
Question and Answer
Q: Would you accept an alternate deck and railing system? Our company uses a treated timber panelized deck instead of the corrugated metal steel deck that is currently shown in the plans. We can still provide all calculations and can meet the other requirements for the design/build of the bridges. The only substitution would be for a different deck and railing system.
A: Treated timber deck and railing system requirements have been added to allow timber materials on the deck and railing. All design requirements shall still be met.
