140L0622R0033 Alaska Fire Service Building 1541 Roof Replacement

Questions and Answers #1

1)Q: Will the designer be adding a specification for the cabled safety line system? Is it the intent to have a “pass thru” system where the worker’ lanyards pass through the anchor point without having to connect the second lanyard? Please advise the manufacturer and system in mind.

A: The drawings A510 contain the Cable connection system to the existing roofs. “Basis of Design for fall protection cable system is HYSAFE, See attached information for system parts and anchoring” (four sheets). The intent is to have a “pass thru” system.

2)Q: What siding needs installed or replaced on this project? The elevations show existing siding, but we are not finding notes of areas to be removed or replaced. Nor have we ascertained the areas where new siding is to be added. What areas of siding need to be installed?

A: The actual quantities of siding have not been called out as the means and methods of demolishing existing parapet walls/drain spouts/entrance roof connections/etc., is dependent on the contractor. The siding will need to be matched to the existing siding in type and color. It was the intent to point out with elevation drawings that additional siding is required, and a site visit is recommended to determine actual quantities. Due to Historical building requirements the existing siding color will need to be matched as close as possible and the new flashing will also need to match the existing flashing color. In the event the colors are not obtainable then the closest standard color will be allowed in the submittal phase.

3)Q: Can the as-builts drawings be provided so the contractors can determine which roof decks are concrete and which are metal pan decking, or can the deck types be added to the new contract drawings?

A: The as-built drawings will be made available to the successful bidder, upon request, to determine actual existing conditions. The old section of the building (50 year historic building) has concrete on top of the metal pan deck and the new section contains the metal decking. The seismic joint as shown on drawing sheet A101 identifies the boundary between the roof types for estimating purposes.

4)Q: Will the EPDM manufacturers self-adhered vapor barrier (Firestone V-Force or Carlisle 725TR) be an acceptable product for 07 52 23 para 2.4? These products are part of their fully tested assemblies.

A: The EPDM assembly must be submitted and evaluated before any substitutes can be accepted or declined. If the substitutes meet all assembly requirements as specified, then a substitute may be allowed.

5)Q: What are the COVID requirements for working inside the building if you are unvaccinated? If a test is taken, how long is it valid?

https://www.blm.gov/

A: A Memorandum for Record entitled “Fort Wainwright Installation Access Restrictions (COVID-19)” is attached. The building is located on Fort Wainwright and all access requirements for this location will apply to the contract.

6)Q: Are both the RD-1 and OFD-1 getting heat traced?

A: Per the drawings and specifications the RD-1 (Primary drain) is heat traced and the OFD-1 (Secondary overflow Drain) is not heat traced.

7)Q: Who has the responsibility to aim the three satellite dishes when they are being put back into place - the owner or the contractor?

A: It is the responsibility of the contractor to remove and replace the satellite dishes under the contract including dish final alignment. If the dishes need to be operational during the reroof construction, then the cost associated to realign the dishes prior to final alignment will be paid and coordinated by BLM.

Only one dish relocation prior to final re-install is anticipated.

8)Q: Does the chimney on the roof of the old building get removed?

A: Yes, See drawing A101 detail 4 for description.

9)Q: What course of action does the contractor follow if there is no available color match to the existing siding?

A: See Question/Answer #2.

End Question/Answer for site visit and general delivery up to 6/17/2022

A: A Memorandum for Record entitled “Fort Wainwright Installation Access Restrictions (COVID-19)” is attached. The building is located on Fort Wainwright and all access requirements for this location will apply to the contract.
