About this file

This document is a Vendor Questions & Answers attachment for a federal contract opportunity to replace overhead doors at the EROS (Earth Resources Observation and Science) facility. The solicitation involves replacing 7 overhead doors - 6 at a warehouse in dark brown and 1 at a Heavy Equipment Building in white, with window panels required. Vendors were provided project drawings after attending a mandatory site visit on June 17, 2025, and are expected to include 6 remote controls with the door installation. Technical specifications allow flexibility on door opener systems, with trolley type openers acceptable, and safety features like photo eyes and bottom safety edges are appreciated but not mandatory.

The document also clarifies administrative requirements, including Davis-Bacon Act wage regulations mandating prevailing wages for laborers, and submission procedures where the prime contractor must submit quotes as a single PDF document. Additional technical notes indicate that any welding or cutting torch work requires prior permit from the EROS safety office, emphasizing strict safety protocols for the project. Interested vendors must carefully review the solicitation details, attend the site visit, and submit comprehensive quotes that meet the specific technical and administrative requirements outlined in the document.

Vendor Questions & Answers

Why are there 8 doors on the solicitation, but only 7 overhead doors for the warehouse? One overhead door section had a wooden wall placed in the doorway and appeared to need a new garage door installed. About 15 years ago, the overhead door was removed, and the wall was installed as a permanent change to the facility. There are only 7 doors that need to be replaced. Machine shop door N-7 (not shown on drawings) is not required.

The solicitation calls for a side mounted door opener to be installed. Is that absolutely necessary as those type of door openers are not very e ective for industrial garage doors and would fail often requiring more maintenance on them? Companies may submit bids with overhead door opener systems. Trolley type openers are acceptable.

What color do the doors need to be? For the warehouse, the 6 doors on this facility need to be dark brown color and the Heavy Equipment Building needs to be white.

For the warehouse, are the window panels still a requirement? Yes

Please let me know if a site visit can be arranged, and if so, your availability and any required procedures. In accordance with the solicitation, a site visit was held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025

We are currently putting our pricing together for the project and wanted to check if you have the opening sizes available. This information will help ensure our estimate is as accurate as possible.

Interested vendors who submitted the required documentation in accordance with the Instructions to Vendors and attended the site visit were provided drawings.

Number of remote controls desired? A total of 6 remote controls.

Specifications sheet says instant reversal. Can this be accomplished with standard photo eyes and bottom safety edge as well. Do you prefer to use both? Additional safety practices are appreciated but not mandatory.

Doors N4 and N6 as well as the HEB building have welds holding track to jamb. Can we utilize a cutting torch if needed? Under the Schedule and Delivery of Performance section The Accident Prevention and Fire Hazards paragraph states if welding in required, a permit must be obtained from the EROS safety o ice prior to the work. Cutting torches would also require a permit to be obtained from the EROS safety o ice prior to work being completed.
