About this file

This is a Request for Information Q&A document related to a heating oil tank replacement project for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Kodiak, Alaska. The Q&A clarifies technical specifications and requirements for replacing an existing heating oil tank.

Key clarifications include: UL2085 certification is acceptable instead of UL2080; the tank size can be 1,000 gallons rather than 1,100 gallons as it is more commonly manufactured; the fill port requires a 5-gallon spill container attachment; the suction tube should be 3/4" pipe; drawings must be provided on 24" x 36" paper with an electronic copy; and only exposed fuel lines need to be replaced, not underground piping. The document includes photos showing the existing tank setup, including copper piping along the tank wall and a connection point with buried poly line. The contractor is only responsible for replacing exposed lines up to the connection with the buried pipe, which appears to be housed in secondary containment.

Request for Information Q&A’s

Questions Answers Tank spec F921 / UL 142 and UL 2080. (Can the

2080 be changed to 2085) I cannot find a company that has that stamp (2080) also the tank size is strangely odd at 1100g, typically all tanks are 500, 1000, 1500 etc.

Yes, a UL2085 is Acceptable

Fill and suction tubes? Is unclear please provide context.

Fill port should have one of those 5-gallon spill containers attached

Suction tube is just piped in, looks like maybe 3/4" pipe.

Provide 24” x 36” Is unclear please provide context.

This is in reference to the drawings requirement on the SOW "Provide one hard copy on 2’X3’ paper and one electronic copy"

Do you have drawings associated with the heating oil tank? (see below)

I have attached the drawings for the existing tank as well as some photos (see amendment01)

The drawing reflects a 1000g tank, this time you’re asking for a 1100g tank, 1000 is standard but can be 1100 if that is what you want. Can you clarify?

The cover sheet calls it a 1,000 gallon tank, but the drawing page labels it at 1,100 gallons.

Perhaps it is 1,100 overall with secondary containment, but storage capacity of fuel is 1,000. Regardless, we are fine with a 1,000 gallon tank. It seems to be the more commonly manufactured size.

Can I get pictures of ¾” piping along side of tank and where it is to be connected. Does the piping go through a wall or is it buried in a conduit of sort. Where is my connection to existing piping to be at.

Photos are attached. We are requesting that lines to the connection with the buried pipe be replaced. No further. It appears that it is a poly line beneath the ground, which should be fine.

Is it intended to have the contractor to replace all of the plumbing from the existing tank to the inside of the boiler room? Including but not limited to all of the underground plumbing. I know that the pipe is inside a secondary containment pipe but I do not remember how accessible that is for replacement of the fuel line.

No exposed lines only.
