About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for Solicitation 140FS125Q0032 regarding a sawyer crew to remove salt cedar trees at the FWS Kern National Wildlife Refuge in California. The document addresses 16 questions from potential contractors about the project requirements and specifications.

Key details revealed include: this is a new requirement with no incumbent; the project covers 18 net acres total with options for 5, 10, or 18 acres; work must be performed on foot once on site though existing roads/levees can be used for access; cut salt cedars must be below 18" in height; weekend work is possible below 85 degrees with advance coordination; no camping is allowed on site; invoicing can be done after completion of each option if Option 3 is awarded; contractors must provide their own high-clearance vehicle for site visits; and the refuge staff will mark the project boundaries with wooden stakes and provide maps for the awarded acreage. The project uses acres rather than individual trees as the unit of measurement, and a masticator was used in other locations but there is no directly comparable prior work area.
