A. A bid bond and a performance bond are required for this project. Ref: a. 40 U.S.C.chapter 31, subchapter III, Bonds (formerly known as the Miller Act), requires performance and payment bonds for any construction contract exceeding $150,000
2. How from apart is the culverts spaced?
A. The only culverts needed on the project are the temporary ones needed for temporary construction access near the pedestrian bridge on the southwest end of the lake. There is no other culverts under the trail.
3. Assuming that surveying will not be required because we are following the existing pad.
A. The path will follow the existing path alignment and general control may be required to form the path. The contractor will be required to form a smooth and uniform alignment, profile, and cross slope for the path.
4. As for testing, are compaction tests required on the existing gravel prior to pouring concrete? At what frequency?
A. Yes, compaction tests will be required for the existing gravel or subgrade below the concrete path. Tests will be required once per lift or after the new material is encountered.
5. Surveying and Testing will be by Fish/Wildlife Service?
A. No, the contractor will be responsible for surveying and testing on this project. The contractor is responsible for Quality Control per Section 014000 – Quality Requirements.
6. In the specs there is a section for culverts. What is this for?
A. The culvert specifications are for any temporary culverts (if used) installed for the construction access road.
7. There were no specs on the concrete mix and work. Can you send me to get pricing from suppliers?
A. A concrete mix meeting the requirements of Section 033000 – Cast-in-Place Concrete must be submitted for review and approval during construction. Section 033000 covers the requirements for the concrete on this project.
8. Seeding/Mulching required?
A. No. Seeding and mulching will be completed by the Refuge after construction is complete.
9. For the construction access, I plan to stockpile the topsoil (with vegetation) and replace over the construction access after completion of project.
A. This would be an acceptable approach to restoring the area disturbed for the temporary construction access. See Section 015000.3.5 for additional information and requirements for the temporary access road.
