About this file

This is an Amendment to a Request for Quote (RFQ) issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under the Department of Commerce providing Government responses to contractor questions regarding the Ultrapure Water System procurement (Solicitation Number 1333ND26QNB030146).

The amendment addresses two closely related questions regarding water volume requirements and usage expectations for the ultrapure water system. The Government clarified that the primary performance specification is defined in the Statement of Work, Line Item 0001, Section A, Technical Specifications, item d, which mandates a sustained dispense rate exceeding 1.5 liters per minute at a pressure range of 30 psi to 70 psi for up to 8 hours continuously (with booster pump support acceptable). This specification translates to peak consumption of approximately 90 liters per hour or 720 liters over an 8-hour workday; however, the Government notes this peak loading is not expected daily and average consumption will be substantially lower. The ultrapure water system must continuously maintain output water pressure within the specified 30-70 psi range to ensure proper downstream instrumentation operation. This amendment was issued on April 7, 2026, following an extension of the RFQ submission deadline from April 6, 2026 to April 10, 2026 to allow time for question responses.

Amendment 0002 Request for Quote Number: 1333ND26QNB030146 Requirement: Ultrapure Water System Purpose: Provide Government response to submitted questions.

Date: 04/07/26

QUESTION: This requirement received two questions closely related with “……does not say the volume of water that is needed on an hourly or daily basis” and “……does the lab happen to know the water usage expectations for this Ultrapure Water System? 25 liters a week or more?”

RESPONSE: The most important performance specification of this requirement is found in the statement of work Line Item 0001, Section A. Technical Specifications, item d. which states “Sustained dispense rate of > 1.5 L min-1 at 30 psi to 70 psi for up to 8 h (booster pump to sustain pressure is acceptable)”.

The requirement to dispense upwards of 90 L/h (or 720 L over an 8-hour workday) reflects the expected peak consumption when everything is operational, and this loading is not expected to be every day. Average consumption will be significantly lower. However, to ensure proper operation of the downstream instrumentation, the ultrapure water system must continuously maintain an output water pressure within the specified range (minimum 30 psi and maximum 70 psi).
