About this file
This document is a comprehensive structural calculations report prepared by Solid Rock Structural Solutions for Caltrans District 5's Templeton Maintenance Station EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) Installation project located at 640 N. Main Street, Templeton, California 93465 (Job #24084).
The project scope encompasses structural engineering design for the installation of new EV chargers (both single and double port units), protective bollards, electrical panel anchorage, and an equipment pad for a transformer. The structural calculations are based on the 2022 California Building Code (CBC), ASCE 7-16 standards for wind and seismic loading, and ACI 318-19 provisions for concrete design. Design parameters include seismic accelerations with SDS = 0.874%g and basic wind speed of 92 mph for Exposure Category C at the Templeton site elevation of 810 feet. The calculations address equipment anchorage for chargers weighing 170 pounds, a transformer weighing 661 pounds, panelboard support systems, and wall-mounted electrical panels. Foundation design includes spread footings for the charger units (2.0 feet × 2.0 feet × 24 inches deep), a circular panel board footing (3.0 feet diameter), and drilled pier bollard footings (18 inches diameter, 7.25 feet embedment depth). All structural members and connections have been designed and verified to meet applicable code requirements with appropriate safety factors for both tension and shear loads.
The calculations indicate that all designed elements meet or exceed code requirements with substantial safety margins. Anchor design for the EV chargers utilizes Hex Head ASTM F 1554 Grade 36 5/8-inch studs with 12-inch embedment in concrete, with maximum anchor utilization ratios of 14 percent for tension and 2 percent for shear. Soil bearing capacity is assumed at 2.0 ksf with allowable lateral soil pressures ranging from 133 to 400 psf depending on depth of embedment. The document notes that these calculations are work-in-progress documents prepared for plan check purposes and may require modifications during the construction phase. All design work was completed as of October 21, 2024, and signed by a California-registered professional structural engineer (License No. 4306, expiration 12/31/2025).

6 Warnings
• The anchor design methods in PROFIS Engineering require rigid anchor plates per current regulations (AS 5216:2021, ETAG 001/Annex C, EOTA TR029 etc.). This means load re-distribution on the anchors due to elastic deformations of the anchor plate are not considered - the anchor plate is assumed to be sufficiently stiff, in order not to be deformed when subjected to the design loading. PROFIS Engineering calculates the minimum required anchor plate thickness with CBFEM to limit the stress of the anchor plate based on the assumptions explained above. The proof if the rigid anchor plate assumption is valid is not carried out by PROFIS Engineering. Input data and results must be checked for agreement with the existing conditions and for plausibility!
• Condition A applies where the potential concrete failure surfaces are crossed by supplementary reinforcement proportioned to tie the potential concrete failure prism into the structural member. Condition B applies where such supplementary reinforcement is not provided, or where pullout or pryout strength governs.
• For additional information about ACI 318 strength design provisions, please go to https://submittals.us.hilti.com/PROFISAnchorDesignGuide/
Fastening meets the design criteria!
