Questions & Answers
Q) …we are getting some conflicting information on what the finished floor elevation should be for the building. Information we are getting is that it could be anywhere from 1’ to 6’ above natural grade from our sub-contractors. We also contacted the local building and permit office, and they informed us we needed to be 1’ above base flood elevation with the finished floor. At this point we have no idea how to prepare the site for the buildings and provide accurate competitive pricing. Could the USDA provide the approximate elevation of the land where the building is being built and the base flood elevation?
A) Attached is an elevation certificate that was done for the greenhouse contract on 2/15/2023. It provides a benchmark at the utility pole adjacent to the equipment building site (+3.00). Also attached is the Louisiana flood map, provided by LSU AgCenter, that may also help in determining project site approximate elevation. The Floodplain data that is shown on this map is the same data that the flood plain administrator uses. This web product is not considered an official FEMA Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM). It is provided for information purposes only, and it is not intended for insurance rating purposes. Contractor would need to contact the local floodplain administrator for more information or to view an official copy of the FIRM or DFIRM.
Recommend FFE at 4.33’ to 4.5’. The closer the FFE is to the adjacent ground the better it is for moving heavy equipment in and out of the building. A 4” to 6” difference would be preferred. This allows some rainwater to “stack-up” along the foundation but not enter the building.
