About this file

This document specifies the design and characteristics for accessible campfire fire rings required by the Bitterroot National Forest.

The Bitterroot National Forest requires procurement of 70 accessible campfire fire ring units that must comply with Forest Service Outdoor Recreation Accessibility Guidelines (NT&DP 1523-2811-MTDC Oct. 2015). Three acceptable brand name products are identified: the Global Industrial Leisure Craft Ada Flip Grate Fire Ring (Model WBB3221460), the Markstaar Accessible Campfire Ring (Model FS-30/24/PA), and the Pilot Rock by Thomas Manufacturing Company FS-30 Accessible Campfire Ring (Model FS 30/24 PA). Alternatively, suppliers may provide equal products meeting specified technical requirements. The fire rings must feature a 30-34-inch overall diameter, 23-28 inch height, and be constructed of no less than 3/16-inch thick steel with high temperature, heat resistant, nontoxic black enamel finish. Each unit requires a formed or welded 1-inch flanged lip around the top and at least 10 drain/draft/anchor holes (¾-1¼ inch diameter) around the perimeter. The cooking grate must measure approximately 290-400 square inches, constructed of A-36 steel bars, and swing approximately 250-300 degrees on hinges to completely clear the fire ring when not in cooking position. The grate includes two substantially constructed spring grips and rests perpendicular to the ground when not in use. Each fire ring is designed to be filled with aggregate (approximately 9-15 inches from bottom) and supplied with three ½-1 inch diameter anchor pins for concrete embedment.
