Questions and Answers through 07/20/2018

Q1-The specifications are to mechanically attach the insulation into the existing 5.5” thick concrete deck, if the deck is that thick throughout then there is no concern of hitting electrical conduit mounted directly under the deck, but there must be a reason why the existing membrane roof overlay was done as a ballasted system, versus just mechanically attaching it, so do you really want all those fasteners in the concrete structure, obviously, the existing BUR roof was installed with hot asphalt and not mechanically fastened, again, do you want the insulation and cover board mechanically fastened, which, with the uplift specified will be a considerable amount at corners and the perimeter or do you want the insulation and cover board set in the manufacturers 2 part urethane adhesive which is more common with concrete decks?

A1 – The specifications for installation of the cover board and insulation will be updated to require adhesive applied, based upon discussions with designers.

Adhesive Attachment: Apply in accordance with membrane and insulation manufacturer's instructions and recommendations; "walk-in" individual roof insulation boards to obtain maximum adhesive contact.

Insulation shall be no larger than 48” x 48”.

Q2-Is the concrete deck 5.5” thick throughout the entire surface?

A2-The deck is 5.5” thick or thicker for the entire surface.

Q3-Do you want a vapor barrier, such as; Johns Manville SA Vapor Barrier and SA Primer installed over the concrete deck prior to the installation of the new insulation, which is another good practice on concrete decks?

A3- No we are not requiring a vapor barrier.

Q4-The plans show a 3” base layer of insulation with a full taper system over the base layer over the entire roof sections and crickets, please clarify that this is correct?

A4- There is a 3” base layer of insulation with taper system to roof drains, except for along North, South, and West walkway around 2nd floor (First Floor Roof) where no base layer is required in order to allow for drainage.

Q5-Do the concrete decks have any structural slope or are they flat?

A5- The concrete deck is flat.
