About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for the Laramie Ranger District of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest Post-Fire Stand Exam (CSE) contract opportunity.

The document clarifies two key aspects of the solicitation requirements. First, regarding data collection methodology, large tree data greater than 5 inches in diameter will only be collected if the trees are live; dead trees of this size will not require data collection, which addresses contractor concerns about cost increases. Second, the stands subject to examination were burned by the Mullen Fire in fall 2020 and are anticipated to contain light to moderate levels of blowdown and down trees that examiners will need to navigate during their field work. This information provides prospective contractors with critical details about scope, field conditions, and expected site challenges for pricing and resource planning purposes.

Questions and Answers for Laramie Ranger District of the Medicine Bow - Routt NF Post-

Fire Stand Exam (CSE)

QUESTIONS:

1. We heard that large tree data (>5") was not going to be collected this year, just the seedlings and saplings. But the solicitation currently states that that data will be collected. Obviously that is a large cost increase, so please let me know it that is correct.

Answer:

Large tree data (>5") will only be collected if it is a LIVE tree.

2. Regarding the post fire exam in Laramie Ranger District.

When did these stands burn?

Do you anticipate significant blowdown and down trees on the stands?

How would you characterize the amount of down material that the examiners will need to navigate through, light, moderate or heavy?

Answer:

These stands were burned by the Mullen Fire in the fall of 2020. I would expect most of the stands to have some blowdown in light/moderate levels of when present.
