Questions and Answers Solicitation # 12805B23Q0953

Subject Requirement: Walk In Chambers for Brookings, South Dakota

Chamber Purpose:

Walk-in chambers are necessary for large scale rearing of multiple organisms including western corn rootworm, northern corn rootworm, entomopathogenic nematodes, and other beneficial species (e.g., ground beetles) depending on future research priorities. These chambers will also support research experiments aimed at understanding the direct and indirect interactions of the species being reared, and their response to environmental variables like temperature.

Lighting required:

No specific lighting is required. We seek basic visibility lighting with programmable on/off timing system.

Does your sample give off a live load (heat) while testing? If so, can you quantify the live load in kW?

No

Does your testing require rise/ramp times? If so, can you quantify the rate in C/min?

No

What is the ideal interior size of the chamber in inches?

Approximately 11 feet long by 7 feet wide by 8 feet high

What is the maximum weight to be tested inside the chamber? What is the size and quantity of the device under test?

No more than 1000 pounds total. For rearing, devices consist of dozens of plastic sweater boxes (20” x 10” x 12”) filled with soil and corn plants. For experiments, devices under test are typically small plastic containers (< 12 oz) filled with soil, with a total of several hundred replicates.

When do you need the chamber in-house?

Period of Performance is 300 days

Exact address for chamber installation?

USDA ARS NCARL, 2923 Medary Avenue, Brookings, SD 57006
