GFHNRC Metabolic Research Unit Renovation RFI Solicitation # 12805B22R0017
1. There is built-in cabinetry in all of the resident rooms that are not shown on the drawing. It was acknowledged at the pre-bid that these are to be Demolished. Please confirm. – Confirmed – built-in cabinetry to be demolished as part of the project. These have been identified on the Demolition Sheets.
2. The RCP doesn’t show how to deal with a low/high condition at column line H from 3 to 4. This area goes from a ceiling that I assume will be 8’ or so up to 12’ or more. Please provide a Cut Through to detail how this is being handled. – The west vertical face going from 8’ to 12’ will be resurfacing the gypsum board only. The 8’ ceiling that’s shown to be new happens at that plane only because of the room demolition.
3. Page A301 - Is there an item/product number for Contractor provided equipment. TV, TV mounting bracket, dryer, washer, microwave. We are not seeing a spec section for those appliances. Please advise. – All equipment will be provided by the government and installed by the contractor.
4. Page A902 - Is all the furniture provided by owner? Spec Section 01 1 000 Summary 1.04 Work by owner, only lists the under-countertop refrigerators. Please clarify all items USDA is providing. The furniture is shown for reference only. It will be separately procured and installed by the government.
5. Page A103 - The alum framing and glazing (08 51 13) between breakroom 304A and Reception 304, what is the height of this glazing? The height of the glazing system will be driven by the provided door height. There are no transoms.
6. For construction Access will we be using Stair 1 or 2? G001 shows the logistics from the outside, but the plans do not show where that is in relation to 3rd floor access. For logistical purposes, please provide a site map of desired construction traffic inside the Facility.
Answer: We would prefer that stairwell #2 (East end) be used primarily. Outside entry door #14 located on the East end connected to stairwell #2 can be accessed easily. We do realize that with other construction taking place in the building and the movement of materials the elevator will need to be utilized from time to time. Please primarily use stairwell #2.
7. Pg A501 detail 1, is the label 100 (to the right of the fridges ) casework or by owner? Purchased and installed by contractor.
8. What type of countertop is on detail 6 Pg. A501? Solid surface counter with backsplash and sidesplash.
9. What type of countertop is on detail 3,8,10,14,18 Pg A502? Two are listed in the spec. Solid surface countertops. The spec identifies that plastic laminate is for the front desk only and solid surface is for all others.
10. Are cut sections for Casework available? Casework types have been identified with AWI Standard Casework Type Numbers, which will be understood by casework providers. No sections available.
11. The ACT spec on this one is a bit convoluted, as there are 2 totally different tile listed: Armstrong Fine Fissured and USG Eclipse. Based on other areas of the HNRC, It has been suggested that something like Eclipse, or Armstrong Cirrus be used Use Armstrong cirrus in white.
12. Armstrong Flooring has been specified. It is our understanding that Armstrong flooring has filed for bankruptcy. It is unknown if Pricing or product is even available. Please provide suitable alternative to these items. – Armstrong Flooring is being bought out and remaining operational. Keep what is specified.
13. The Alternatives in the Spec’s differ from the Solicitation. Please clarify the alternatives the Government desires pricing on. – There is only one alternate. Disregard Alternates 2 and 3 listed in specification section 01-23-00.
14. Notes 2 and 5 on drawing P101 call for existing cast iron piping to be replaced with CPVC piping. Previous replacement of pipe in the facility was done with PVC piping. Is PVC piping allowed in lieu of the CPVC pipe indicated? – Mechanical – CPVC piping as shown on drawing P101 is required since the lines are going through a plenum.
15. Solicitation states a Period of Performance of 9/01/22 – 12/31/22 (84 days). In today’s current environment, if lead time for material exceed the “POP”, will time extensions be granted? – USDA to answer – we could recommend they extend the time to 120 days? Or there may be a total contract length but a PoP for on-site construction of 84 days.
16. Please confirm if the contractor is to assume there is not any required lead, asbestos or other hazardous material abatement? Confirmed – USDA has conducted hazardous material assessments of the area and there were no confirmed instances of lead based paint or asbestos.
