About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the Mendocino National Forest Fuels Equipment Rental project. The U.S. Forest Service requires heavy equipment rental to support fuel reduction and roadside brushing projects within the Mendocino National Forest, which was significantly impacted by the Ranch and August Complex fires. The contract calls for the contractor to provide three specific pieces of equipment: one HEX 320 CAB/AIR THUMB excavator, one HEX BKT 36" B LINK excavator (with potential rubber tracks), and one HEX FORESTRY MULCHER BLINK excavator. The equipment will be delivered to the Mendocino National Forest headquarters in Willows, CA on or around 05/15/2026 and picked up on or around 09/11/2026, with the primary objective of clearing roadways and addressing safety concerns caused by brush and small diameter trees in fire-affected areas.

Project Mendocino National Forest Fuels Equipment Rental
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
Heavy Equipment rental is needed to complete fuel reduction and roadside brushing projects within the Mendocino National Forest. Much of the forest has burned in the Ranch and August Complex fires. As a result, many areas are not safe to be worked by hand crews and roads are getting brushed in causing difficult access to fuels projects and safety issues for employees as well as the public riving the roads. Significant work has been done to remove hazardous trees from main roadsides, but brush and small diameter trees are impacting many roadways.
2.0 Background
Equipment rental was acquired in FY 2025 for 4 months to support fuels reduction efforts, and the same equipment is needed to continue work next spring/summer.
