REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) OFFICIAL RESPONSES

127EAW24R0003 - Fern Fall Trail Bridge Replacement

RFI responses will be responded to as necessary in amendment format which will be posted to the solicitation via beta.SAM.gov

Telephone requests for information will not be accepted or returned.

RFI #1 – Can you clarify locations and quantities of structural excavation and structural backfill? Will imported materials be required?

USFS Response – For the Structural Excavation and Backfill, material may need to be added to each approach to account for the height change for the new bridge deck as per plans.

RFI #2 – Can you clarify how many hazard trees will need to be removed? Can the debris be left on site?

USFS Response – See Clear and Grub Response Below

RFI #3 – Bid item 15204 Construction Surveying- It would seem contractor is only responsible to perform layout necessary to order bridge components. Please clarify if the

Forest Service is looking for any deliverables under this bid item and if we need to employ a licensed surveyor for any reason.

USFS Response – Correct, Survey and Staking would be for the existing control points for elevations.

RFI #4 – 20102 Clear and Grub- What are the limits of Clear and Grub? It is not apparent what we need to remove, please clarify? Also is the contractor responsible to remove the debris and logs under the proposed bridge? See attached picture.

USFS Response – Clearing Limits are called out on Page X-05 on the Clearing and Grubbing

Drawing and the notes below.

RFI #5 – Referencing sheet X05. During the site visit several questions were asked about this drawing, I feel like it could be interpreted several ways. Are there any standing trees that need to be removed as part of this contract? If so please identify and quantify so we can include in our

USFS Response – Any dead tree within the clearing limits would need to be removed.

RFI #6 – 20801 Structure Excavation- I do not see any scope of work identified in the drawings. What are you asking us to do?

FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY

USFS Response – See RFI #1

RFI #7 – 20803 Structure Backfill- Same as above

RFI #8 – Can you provide contacts for bridge manufactures?

USFS Response – No, the government cannot suggest vendors as to not show preference.

RFI #9 – There is a line item for structural excavation, but no quantities are shown?

RFI #10 – How many trees are to be cut down?

USFS Response – No number is called out, dead trees that are withing the clearing limits would need to be cut.

RFI #11 – Are we clearing all the downed trees in the creek under where the bridge is to be installed?

USFS Response – See notes under clearing limits on X-05

RFI #12 – Can you provide the vendor’s name and contact information the USFS uses for lumber as mentioned at the site visit?

USFS Response – That was in reference to wood bollards posts and not specifically to bridge timbers, the government cannot suggest vendors as to not show preference.
