Project Monkey Flower Site Protection
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
Provide and install a 240’ length fence consisting of 2 3/8" diameter round metal pipe set in concrete 8’ on center with two rails consisting of 1 7/8” diameter round metal pipe welded at each end to a post to serve as top and bottom rail. (See attached drawing ”Double Pipe Rail Spec (Monkey Flower)”)
Project Engineer shall stake / mark the locations of the fence prior to site visit date / time.
2.0 Background
Fence is designed and to be installed to close out several user-created vehicle egresses to prevent degradation of the habitat of a sensitive and rare plant species. Project’s funding comes from an approved El Dorado County RAC grant.
Contractor Requirements
3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks
Placement of the fence will be at Mt. Diablo Meridian, T8 N R13 E, Sec. 13, 38.545462, -120.497579, with a 20’ setback parallel with and to the west of Omo Ranch Road near the intersection with FS road 08N62. COR will meet contractor at the job site before, during, and after construction or when needed to verify location and completion of project.
Contractor will drill and excavate tailings from post holes 10” in diameter and 18” deep and 8’ apart along length of projected location. Posts will need to be set in concrete plumb to the vertical 8’ apart and along projected location. After concrete has cured, top and bottom rails will be welded to each post per drawings.
When drilling the holes for the posts and bedrock is encountered less than the required 18” depth from the surface, a 6” X 3” X ¼” steel flange w/an 11/16” diameter hole will need to be attached to the shortened post and secured with a 4” X 5/8” diameter expansion bolt drilled into the bedrock. Setting these posts in concrete will still be part of the process for these posts in addition to the expansion bolt. It is determined that 25% or less of the 31 posts may have to be installed in this manner. Project Engineer will be on site when the post hole drilling is taking place to determine the necessity of this adjustment to the installation of posts in a case by case basis.
See attached “Bedrock Post & Plate Diagram” for full details.
NOTE: COR MUST BE NOTIFIED FOR INSPECTION PRIOR TO BACK FILLING THE HOLES WITH BEDROCK AND FLAGES.
4.0 Government Furnished
Government will inspect for compliance with above specifications, length, placement, and integrity before granting approval for completion of a project.
