127EAW22Q0032: RFI Responses

RFI #1&2

1) The contractor that installed the CXT vaults left a substantial amount of dirt on site from the vault hole. Will a line item be included for the removal of this dirt?

As of 8/31, no large piles of dirt were found on site. Contractor will not be responsible for the removal of any existing debris piles from vault excavation. Contractor will be responsible for the removal of dirt and debris from new construction activities.

2) The plan calls for a 2:1 maximum cut and fill slope, however this will not be possible in some cases behind the vaults because the vaults were installed up against the cut slope. How would you like us to address this?

For North Fork of Big Pine site, cut and fill slopes will not be required due to slope steepness.

3) In some cases, it won't be possible to meet the maximum sidewalk slope due to the fact that the vaults were installed too high. Can the concrete slopes be increased to meet existing conditions?

At sites where current alignment will not meet ADA grade requirements, the alignment will be modified during the contract. Unless otherwise noted in the drawings, all sidewalks must meet ADA requirements.

4) The electrical box at Convict Lake North will need to be replaced instead of simply installing a collar. Can this be noted?

This will be reflected on the project drawings. See sheet number 19 and Line Item 17

5)The plan calls for the dirt around the vault to be scar-fired and re compacted. When the vaults were installed the dirt around the vault wasn't compacted. The building floor is bigger than the vault and there are currently cavities under the building that will be difficult to re compact and may experience some settling at a later date. Is the contractor responsible to re compact under the buildings?

Contractor is responsible for scarifying and compacting around the perimeter of each building as shown on page 4 of the drawings. This depth does of compaction does not need to exceed the depth on the drawings.

6) No rebar is shown in the concrete specs. Will this spec change to include rebar?

No rebar will be used for the concrete work

7) The concrete spec call for 4,000psi. Will the contractor be required to have testing done on the concrete or will the mix design suffice?

The mix design will suffice

8) The concrete specs call for a 3-1/2" slump, will the contractor need to have slump tests performed or will the COR inspecting suffice?

COR inspection will suffice

9) Does the contractor need to provide submittals for the concrete and road base?

The contractor will need to provide submittals for the concrete and road base

10) The solicitation states no camping on the Inyo NF. Can this be changed to allow camping?

Camping is allowed on the forest following all the rules and regulations. However, no sites will be set aside for the contractor and contractor will be responsible for all logistics and reservations through traditional means (rec.gov). No camping is allowed at any of the toilet sites.

11) Will bonding be required?

Bid Bond as per Section I, 52.228-1 is required.

Payment and Performance Bonds as per Section I, 52.228-15 are required.

12) The plan calls for a traffic control plan. Is this necessary in the campgrounds in October?

A traffic plan is required, each site sees vehicle traffic and pedestrian use.

13) The local quarry does not have a 6" crushed rip rap, however they have 6" cobble and 3"-6" rip rap. Will one of those suffice for Convict Lake South?

3”-6” rip rap will be acceptable. No cobble will be allowed. All rock must be angular.

14)What is the last day to submit RFI's?

The Cut off date for receipt of RFIs is September 6, 2022.

15) Will the COR be available Monday - Friday to inspect the work?

Yes

16) the vaults at Aerie Crag and Horseshoe have not been installed

They will be installed 9/7 & 9/8

17) Can we use barrier rocks from other sites instead of hauling rocks from a quarry

Yes, the contractor may use barrier rocks from on site or other toilet sites as approved by the COR
