RESPONSES TO REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION

RFI #1 – Relocate Boulder Barriers; After a site visit to the area, there does not appear to be “free” existing boulders to be relocated. There are some being utilized in the areas identified, but it seems counter-productive to relocate these as they are existing barriers. According to the bid items, there should be 30 available. Please clarify if these are in another location, or we should plan to import additional boulders. Please revise bid items if necessary.

A: No change to quantities of additional imported boulders. “Relocate” and “New” boulder barrier quantities were calculated considering the placement of boulder barriers in all required locations. Boulder harvesting and placement locations were determined based on areas where illegal parking may provide such a constriction that emergency vehicles could not access the area. To clarify plan notes:

Note 2: These boulders (4) should be reset along with 8 additional boulders to make a row of 12 boulders that meets the specifications of Detail 1 between Sta 1+13 and Sta 2+00

Note 8: These boulders (4) should be harvested for use in any of the other new boulder barriers specified. If these boulders, after harvesting, do not meet specification requirements, an additional area on site has been identified for boulder harvest.

Note 9: These boulders (15), located on the shoulder of the existing No Parking and future Emergency Parking area, should be harvested for use in any of the other new boulder barriers specified.

Note 10: These boulders (5), located on the wider shoulder after the No Parking area, shall be relocated in the same general area to make a row of boulders that meets the specifications of Detail 1 between Sta 9+29 and Sta 9+92. The intent of this row of boulders is to prevent parking as the road constricts and the emergency parking area ends.

Note 16: These boulders (2) should be harvested and relocated to the area described in Note 17.

RFI #2 – Staging Area: Please identify a temporary staging area and stockpile location for equipment and materials. It appears that another contractor is working in the area as well.

A: FS will coordinate a staging and stockpile area. If an area can not be made available at Rainbow Pool Day Use Area, an area will be identified and available within 1 mile.

RFI #3 – Option Items, signs/posts; It appears that new signs and a fee tube have been installed already.

Please clarify number of new installations, if any, and revise bid items.

A: Option item quantities shall be adjusted accordingly:

10 14 00.01 Forest Service Recreation Site Signage 1 (Sweetwater CG only) 32 33 20 Fee Deposit Boxes 0

RFI #4 – Option Items, emergency striping; Please clarify what is to happen with the existing white striping in the no parking/emergency area. Can this be painted over in Red, or does it need to be blacked

Stanislaus National Forest Page 3 out, or removed prior to the installation of new paint?

A: It is acceptable for the existing striping to be painted over in red. Anywhere the new striping does not cover existing, the existing striping shall be removed by sandblasting or by painting out in black paint per Specification 32 12 17.
