About this file

This file contains Requests for Information (RFIs) and responses related to the installation of a stacked washer and dryer in a greenhouse facility operated by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) Science & Technology Program. The solicitation (12639526Q0143) requires contractors to supply and install a Samsung-compatible stacking kit for existing frontload washer and dryer units, with installation occurring along an exterior wall in the greenhouse entryway. The project scope includes reconfiguring existing plumbing, installing new electrical connections, adding ventilation modifications, and performing necessary structural alterations to accommodate the stacked appliances.

The RFIs document captures clarifying questions and official responses from the government regarding technical requirements, installation specifications, and project scope. These responses serve to address contractor inquiries and provide guidance on critical details such as utility connections, structural considerations, ventilation requirements, and site conditions. This information is essential for contractors preparing accurate bids and ensuring compliance with the specific installation requirements at the greenhouse facility.

RFIs and Responses Per the site visit, the wall of the new location for the washer and dryer is an exterior wall. Per the scope of work the contractor shall demo CMU wall for drain tie in. The existing condition and scope of work seems to be excessive. Can you advise if the washer drain tie in can be surface mounted or drained into the adjacent utility sink?

Per the building code the dry vent cannot exhaust within 3 feet (of any direction) of electrical equipment and door and window openings. Can you please advise an alternate location of the dryer exhaust?

The SOW should have stated that demo may be required. A surface-mounted drain tie or draining the washer into the utility are both acceptable options.

Given those code restraints on the dryer vent, we’re thinking that an overhead vent may be necessary. Here is a picture of the exterior wall – somewhere in the general area around the red box.
