This is a Questions and Answers document for the Ottawa National Forest Lake Ottawa Day Use Building Roof Replacement project located at Lake Ottawa Road, Iron River, MI 49935 (GPS coordinates: 46.077350° -88.763952°).
The project requires installation of 30-year asphalt shingles with specific manufacturer and material requirements. Acceptable shingle manufacturers are GAF Timberline HD or CertainTeed Landmark, with color matching the existing shingles. Ridge shingles must be Timbertex or CertainTeed in the same color and manufacturer as the roof shingles. If a ridge vent is required, acceptable manufacturers are GAF Cobra Snow Country or Air Vent Inc. ShingleVent II or approved equals, with existing roof cut approximately 2 inches on either side of the ridge line. Additional materials specified include GAF Weatherwatch Leak Barrier or CertainTeed WinterGuard for ice and water shield, 2-5/8" x 1-1/8" galvanized drip edge, and synthetic underlayment matching the shingle manufacturer. No formal site visit is scheduled, but prospective bidders may visit the site independently; the road is plowed but snow may require walking to access the building. Staging is limited to the immediate project area, and contractors must coordinate parking space usage with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) while protecting work areas with barriers, flagging, or other approved safety devices to ensure public safety.
