About this file
This is an attachment detailing material testing requirements and specifications for a construction project. The Contractor is responsible for contracting and paying for all material testing. For Aggregate Base work, testing must follow AASHTO T 180, Method D standards, with compaction to at least 95.0 percent of maximum density. In-place density and moisture content must be determined using AASHTO T 310 or other approved procedures, with testing frequency set at 1 per 3,500 square yards but not less than 3 tests total. For Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) using MDOT Grade 4EL, compaction must achieve at least 91.0 percent of maximum specific gravity. In-place density testing after compaction shall follow AASHTO T 166 or other approved test procedures, with testing frequency of 1 per 700 tons but not less than 3 tests.
This attachment is part of the Access Roads Construction at Monocle Lake Recreation Area solicitation (Solicitation Number 12445526B0003) in Michigan's Hiawatha National Forest, managed by the Department of Agriculture Forest Service. The project is a GAOA-funded repaving project with an estimated magnitude of $500,000 to $1,000,000. All contractor questions were due by March 13, 2026. The solicitation references FP-24 (formerly FP-14) standards for additional technical specifications.

Text version
1. Material testing shall be contracted and paid for by the Contractor.
a. Aggregate Base: Determine the maximum density according to AASHTO T 180, Method D. Compact to at least 95.0 percent of maximum density. Determine the in-place density and moisture content according to AASHTO T 310 or other approved test procedures. Testing frequency shall be 1 per 3,500 SY but not less than 3.
b. Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA): MDOT Grade 4EL. Compact to at least 91.0 percent of the maximum specific gravity (density). Density In-place testing after compacting shall be by AASHTO T 166 or other approved test procedures. Testing frequency shall be 1 per 700 tons but not less than 3.
