About this file

This is an instructional document detailing the Limits of Disturbance (LOD) and staging area requirements for the Holcombe Creek bridge deck replacement project.

The document specifies that LOD areas are marked with red flagging in the field, which takes precedence over the provided map. Any LOD modifications require written CO approval. Within the LOD, only stems smaller than 5" DBH may be removed, and pre-cleared areas can be used for vehicle turning and staging. All staging areas must be hardened with AASHTO #1 Limestone prior to use, with the stone remaining in place after project completion. No excavation is permitted in staging areas or within the LOD unless specifically authorized. The contractor must implement erosion and sediment control measures, including straw waddles along disturbed area perimeters, and all disturbed areas must be permanently seeded and mulched before demobilization. Road maintenance work is not limited by the LOD but must stay within clearing limits defined in the Statement of Work.

Limits of Disturbance & Staging Areas – Instructions

• The Limits of Disturbance (LOD) are marked in the field with red flagging.

o The LOD marked in the field control over the map on the next page and shall not extend beyond the LOD maximum extents shown.

o Written permission from the CO is required to alter the LOD in any way.

o The LOD does not limit the road maintenance work in the contract. All road maintenance shall be within the clearing limits defined in the Statement of Work.

• Areas which have already been cleared of brush and trees prior to the beginning of the period of performance and within the LOD may be used for turning vehicles and equipment as well as staging materials and equipment.

o Written Government approval is required prior to removal of brush or stems within the LOD except as already specifically authorized for removal in the contract.

o All areas to be used for staging materials and equipment shall be hardened with AASHTO #1 Limestone prior to utilization for staging. Stone used to harden staging areas is incidental to mobilization and shall not be paid under any other item. Stone shall remain in place after the project.

o No excavation is permitted within staging areas.

• No excavation is permitted within the LOD except as specifically authorized in the contract.

• Only stems smaller than 5" DBH may be removed within the LOD.

• All disturbed areas within the LOD shall have appropriate erosion and sediment control installed throughout the project.

o Straw waddles shall be installed as necessary along the perimeter of disturbed areas to limit erosion and sedimentation. All disturbed areas shall be permanently seeded and mulched prior to demobilization.

See map of the LOD maximum extents shown on the next page.
