About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding Request for Quote (RFQ) 12441923Q0095 for bunker demolition at the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. The RFQ involves demolishing Group 65 and Group 66 bunkers through removal of all concrete, which must be deposited at a designated stockpile location for processing and recycling by Midewin. Alternatively, contractors may haul broken concrete offsite for processing and recycling, or process it onsite within the work area and haul the material offsite. Final grading of bunker footprints is expected to match the surrounding grade without discernable bumps, and any excavated gravel or sand must be kept separate from topsoil.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (Q&As)

RFQ 12441923Q0095-Midewin Bunker Demolition BPA

Site Visit of 8/24/2023

1. Does all of the concrete removed during demolition have to be deposited at the stockpile location?

ANSWER: Midewin will accept the following methods to fulfill the contract requirement for proper concrete disposal:

1. Contractor may haul and dump broken concrete at the designated stockpile location. Processing and recycling will be completed by Midewin.

2. Contractor may haul broken concrete off Midewin for processing and recycling.

3. Contractor may process broken concrete on site within the designated work area of the BPA Call and haul processed material offsite for recycling/reuse.

Regardless of the method used, all concrete whether broken into pieces or processed into reusable material, must be removed from the work area within the Period of

Performance specified in each BPA Call (usually 21 days per bunker).

2. Please describe what is expected in the final grading.

ANSWER: Final grading of the bunker footprint is to match the surrounding grade as close as possible. There should not be a discernable “bump” where the bunker was once located. Additionally, any gravel or sand excavated from around the foundations or under floors is not to be mixed with the black topsoil that currently covers each bunker. Gravel and sand unearthed during demolition can be placed at depths greater than 2’ if needed as fill and then covered with clean topsoil. Broken unprocessed concrete is not suitable fill material and must be handled as described above.
